Could Jeff Frazee Be the Answer?
I'm not sure how many here closely follow the Devils' Lowell AHL affiliate, but after several horrible seasons, the Lowell Devils are playing pretty well this year. Thanks in large part to Jeff Frazee, who was name to the PlanetUSA team for the AHL all star game.
Frazee, if you remember, was once considered a pretty good prospect when the Devils drafted him. But for some reason, he basically lost his starting job at the University of Minnesota and people kind of forgot about him. The Devils scouts always loved him. And now he is actually one of the leaders in the AHL in save percentage with a Steve Mason-like .932 save percentage. It's weird seeing a Devils goalie prospect actually have a winning record after watching prospect after prospect struggle in Albany and then Lowell (maybe even back to Utica).
Regardless, I'd like to see Frazee play most of the rest of the year in Lowell if possible. Get him really to a point where he gets his confidence up and is raring to go next season.
The Devils have long sought a goalie who could possibly one day replace the great Brodeur. Clemmensen isn't the long-term answer. Maybe they could've finally found it with Frazee.

It looks as if patience is paying off.
Good job to the Devils scouts for sticking by him even in the roughest of rough times. Hopefully, this is a confidence booster to the organization and the fans that he could be the long-term answer in goal when Brodeur really goes for good.
Goalies do take a while to develop and Frazee is a good example of that.
To be fair, Brodeur’s injury meant Clemmensen had to move up to the NHL, leaving a spot open for Frazee. All things considered, both Devils’ netminders have been excellent. But to be further fair (and a bit word-picky), we cannot expect Frazee or anyone to replace Brodeur. You can’t replace a legend. The expectation will almost never be met. That said, I’m very happy to hear that Frazee is taking the ball and running with it, so to speak.
Devils in my heart! Devils in my mind! Devils in my eyes! Devils until I die!
