Devils @ 2009 WJC: Consolation Update
Only one Devil took part in today's day of games in the 2009 World Junior Championships. The United States needed a third period equalizer and overtime to get it done, but they got it done over the Czech Republic to take fifth place.
Mike Hoeffel only added 3 shots in the game, he was not a part of the scoring tonight. But he was wise to stay out of the box, as the game got ugly. I mean, David Stich of the Czechs managed to compile 52 penalty minutes in this game alone (50 in one fight! The refs were certainly not pleased!)
Anyway, Hoeffel's tourney ends with disappointment as the Americans finished out of the medal round. It also ends with 1 goal, 2 assists, 14 penalty minutes, and 10 shots on goal in 6 games for the checking winger.
Tomorrow: Mattias Tedenby and Sweden take on Patrice Cormier and Canada for the gold.
Relegation Round Ends: Germany and Kazakhstan were relegated to Division 1. Switzerland and Austria will be promoted for 2010's tourney. Finland avoided disaster. Yes, that Finland.

What is a world junior tournament without Austria and Switzerland…I mean really?
They need 10 teams
And the gap in talent between the first 7 and everyone else is really huge.
Devils in my heart! Devils in my mind! Devils in my eyes! Devils until I die!
