Lowell Devils fans are gonna love Dean McAmmond

Looks like the New Jersey Devils won the Dean McAmmond sweepstakes, signing the awesomely awesome veteran to an AHL contract (which may be two-way, it's unclear at this point). The Devils have just become one of my favourite teams.

From the team's official site:

The Devils announced Tuesday that Lowell has signed forward Dean McAmmond to an AHL contract. Defenseman Cory Murphy cleared waivers and has been assigned to the Devils' affiliate.

McAmmond, 36, recorded five goals and 11 assists in 62 games split between the Senators and Islanders last season. The 5-11, 195-lb. native of Grand Cache, Alberta, has scored 178 goals and 253 assists for 431 points in 934 career games with Chicago, Edmonton, Philadelphia, Calgary, Colorado, St. Louis, Ottawa, and NY Islanders.

Some of you may remember him from his first tour of duty, but seriously, he's awesome. I hope he gets to your NHL squad soon, and makes serious waves.

Thanks for the tip.

Cory Murphy cleared waivers so he’ll be down in Lowell with McAmmond.

In 2004-05, McAmmond was a playmaking force with Albany: 19 goals, 42 assists in 79 games per HockeyDB Led the team in scoring that season.

Per Tom Gulitti’s report, McAmmond was signed specifically to Lowell. He’d have to sign a NHL contract to come up to NJ. If he performs really well, then it’s a long shot – but a shot all the same.

No worries

I’m just happy to have a front-page post on a blog other than my own!

Sarcasm?

I don’t know if PeterR was kidding or not with his praise of McAmmond? I don’t care either way..I have always liked his style of play and attitude..Dean McAmmond’s not PeterR’s. If Pelley slips in his play or falls to injury I wouldn’t mind seeing him center the fourth line.

He may be a bit over the top, but he really was awesome in Albany a few years back.

But seriously, he’s not a bad pick up for Lowell – and his past NHL experience helps.

Not an ounce of kidding in there

Seriously, I have a McAmmond Sens jersey. I love the guy. Well, for fear of making him think I’m a crazy stalker, I just really respect the way he plays the game. I’m glad he’s back in the game, and I think he deserves a lot better than finishing his career in the AHL.

MC Ammer was never the same after Pronger ripped his head off in the 06-07 finals. Then wingnut Downie does it again the next year in pre-season. This guy is a heart and soul veteran with a ton of speed and decent hands. I sure hope his contract is 2-way and he gets a shot to show that he’s got his groove back. I seriously think Pronger should have his salary garnisheed to create a retirement fund for Dean and his other victims that had their earnings seriously diminished by his outrageous on ice behaviour.
