Game #11 of 82 - Devils at Boston Bruins

New Jersey Devils at Boston Bruins, Oct 29, 2009 7:00 PM EDT

TV: MSG Plus (HD)

Radio: WFAN 660 AM

Previews: The Honorable John Fischer's for NJD, and Stanley Cup of Chowder's for Beantown.

Song to Get You Pumped Up But Also Make You Think Deeply About Tonight's Game: "Cool the Engines" by Boston.

I'm no fool
I'm gonna keep it cool
and take it day by day
We won't know where we might go
'Till we take it all the way

By the way, if you're interested in submitting a song for one of these things, e-mail me at SMLepore@comcast.net.

NOTE: As Gulitti reported earlier, Yann Danis will get his first start tonight for New Jersey.  Tim Thomas guards the Boston goal.

Fischer will be commenting tonight, and I'll join in about an hour or so late.  As our constant reminder goes:  Keep the comments clean, you keep them on-topic (tangents OK, talking about the Devils/Bruins is OK, but I don't want to turn this into a "I can't believe he was cheesy enough to use a Boston song for this" thread), and support the New Jersey Devils.

Well, Chara fell down at the point

And Langenbrunner and Parise go down on a 2-on-1! Langenbrunner shoots it and Thomas did well to challenge for the shot.

Earlier, Danis made his first save as a Devil in this regular season

Boston has been dominant in terms of possession so far, lots of long shifts by the Devils’ defense.

Incidentally, your eyes were not lying, Pikkarainen was just out there with Zajac.

Danis

by HELLAWAITS on Oct 29, 2009 7:33 PM EDT reply actions

He is. Boston didn’t score on the PP, but they definitely have built on it. The Devils have been inconsistent on defense – giving up the puck in too many spots followed by a smart play that leads to a counter attack of sorts.

It’s better than just being beaten repeatedly, but the Devils need to be more consistent. Danis has played well so far.

Boston gets a good chance and it is stopped by a Bryce Salvador slash while he was falling. That one doesn’t bother me as much as it stopped a potential chance as opposed to just being dumb like Bryce’s earlier hook.

Devils kill it but...

…Boston keeps it in, they pound the puck on net, Oduya blocks a shot, his stick breaks, the puck squirts among the traffic and Bergeron buries a pass for the equalizer.

That was more bad luck on Oduya and the Devils rather than a bad play.

You know, the Devils have given up too many blind clearances and too much space to the Boston forwards. Likewise, they have not had many shifts where they actually set up on offense.

This is looking a lot like last night, admittedly.

Second period over

This is a bit confusing. I have no idea whether to say that the Devils should be happy the Bruins only got one past Danis, or that they should be up given some of the chances they had.

Losing Oduya hurts, even if he wasn’t playing great. The Devils really need to press the issue on defense because Boston only needs to connect on a few of those passes, or do a better job shooting, or get lucky and avoid not driving a shot into one of their own players or a Devils’ defender to get the lead here.
