NJ Devils Send Matt Halischuk Down to Lowell
Per Tom Gulitti, the New Jersey Devils moved the young winger to their AHL farm team, the Lowell Devils, today. This leaves the Devils with, well, no extra players on their roster.
This tells me that Patrik Elias must be getting ready real soon for the Devils to make this move. There was no pressure to create extra space otherwise.

Hopefully Patty comes back soon so our power play can start clicking.
As for Halischuk, it’s definitely the best move for him. We have plenty of top 9 talent (ZZPops, Bergfors, Clarkson, Zubrus, Rolston, Neidermayer and Pikka is kind of showing 3rd line winger talent) plus Pandolfo and Elias when they come back from injury. He isn’t going to improve much playing on the fourth line playinf 4 minutes a game, let him come back next year, a little better, a little more experienced and a little stronger. He is probably a natural replacement for Pandolfo when his contract is up in 20 months.
I agree that more time in Lowell would be better for him if he’s not going to get it here. Incidentally, I think if Pikkarainen struggled when he was on an offensive line in the last two games, then maybe Halischuk doesn’t get sent down. As a result of that, I think Lemaire is making the move now. Once Elias returns, Halischuk would get 4th line minutes regardless.
So…you pretty much nailed it.
Devils in my heart! Devils in my mind! Devils in my eyes! Devils until I die!
