First trip to The Rock

Here in my tiny farm town in Upstate New York hockey is mainly a non-issue.  If you want to talk sports you had better know the Yankees, Giants and Bills, and in that order.  I was lucky in that, my father had a friend who worked for the Utica Devils and we would go to a game a few times a year.  I had loved the games but did not have a team to root for until this Brodeur guy, who had tossed me a puck while I watched a pregame skate, was called up and a New Jersey Devils fan was born.

Star-divide

I did get a chance to go to one game while the Devils still played at the Continental Airlines Arena many years ago.  Of course it was one of the ten games a year that Marty sat but I am over that now.  The reason I haven't been to another game is until now I had no one else who had enough interest in hockey to take the 6 hour trip each way to see a game.

Two of my friends are big Buffalo Bills fans, as am I, and they could not understand how I could be happy come November and December since the Bills where usually falling on their faces.  I told them of this strange game they knew nothing of.  It took some work and explaining of rules but two years of watching games together later, two new hockey fans have been born.

Last year we went to our first Bills game and had a blast, even though surprise surprise they lost.  After a terrible start to the year we have decided not to go to a Bills game this year.  I took this opportunity to suggest a Devils game instead.  They liked the idea and gave me the job of finding the right game.

Here is where I am asking for help.  I think we will only be able to make one game since getting time off of work for all of us will be a hassle.  Currently I am thinking of going to the "Guys Night Out" game against the Canadiens.  I was wondering how the view was for these seats or if there would be a better one to look at.  Thank you for the help and as always GO DEVILS!

I’m glad to see that you’re attending your first game at The Rock.

1) Your options are either the upper levels at each end, the 100 corner sections, or the lower bowl ends. I have a season ticket in that same Mezzanine, orange area, so I can verify that those seats are excellent. Granted, you’ll be at one end of the rink, but it’s not so far that you can’t tell what’s going on at the other end.

I’ve sat in those upper level seats before and the views aren’t bad at all. The seats seem to be a bit narrower and they are a bit steeper; but it’s still a pretty good place to watch a hockey game.

2) I’m assuming the “Guys Night Out” game against Montreal, you mean January 22? The crowds for New Jersey are generally larger and louder (read: better) after the New Year for some reason. It’s definitely a good game to go to, and according to the schedule, it’s probably the best competition (on paper) after the Washington game.

Plus, you’d get the added of bonus of definitely seeing Martin Brodeur in net because no way does he miss a game against Montreal unless he’s hurt.

So I’d go through with it. If your friends don’t mind paying a little more, I’d recommend getting seats (and soon) at the Mezzanine level. They really are great seats.

If you’re going to the Rock for the first time and you never get the opportunity to go, I would highly recommend getting seats within the Mezzanine or Balcony sections. Its worth the extra 15 or so bucks per ticket to get a much better view of the game. Granted, the upper sections have decent views as well but in your case, I would recommend the extra money for the better quality view. I’ve been to a decent couple of games in sections throughout the entire arena and the mezzanine/balcony sections have been some of my favorite views thus far.

The Canadiens game looks like an excellent game for you to go to. A lot of former players will be returning, Marty always seems a little more pumped up for these games and the Canadiens have always been a worthwhile opponent.
