Lets Go Devils
unfortunatly I have directTV . currently debating the wisdom of going to the bar to watch vs. listening online.
I would recommend going somewhere to see it – it’s more fun that way. Me? I’m going audio tonight. This should make the recap…interesting.

Per Gulitti’s twitter @TGfireandice here’s the starters:
Devils’ starters: Parise-Zajac-Elias; White-Mottau; Brodeur. Flyers starters: Carcillo-Betts-Laperriere; Pronger-Carle; Emery.

Just back from Toronto....
Was there on vacation…and present for the entire Hall of Fame weekend activities. What a great city…if you guys haven’t had the chance get up there for a game and take in the Hockey Hall of Fame. It really is a must see for any true hockey lover…the Hall is set up really well and the admission is very reasonable.
I’ll give the Flyers fans this – they are a real live bunch at the W.C.

I know we’ve got a rep for being a bunch of jerks, but the City of Brotherly Love moniker is perfect when describing how we treat our beloved athletes. I guarantee you Dave Schultz hasn’t paid for lunch in this town in the last 30 years.

Whenever I hear that Zach Parise has the puck on offense, I get a little more excited. He just makes things happen.

Icing sounds like a good idea – plenty of action from both sides. I do agree that a bounce could very well decide how this one goes.

Sounds like the Flyers got real close just again. Again, this is not new to the Devils in the last 8 games (or most of those 9 road games overall, actually).

So let me see if I get this straight, the Flyers come close again, they crash the net, and they draw a cross-checking call right before the end of the power play?

Certainly sounded that way. To me, it also sounds like they need some momentum. Killing this penalty to start the second would go a long way in making that happen.

The devils
somehow need to get that “swagger” back they had for so many years when they faced the flyers. They always had so much confidence going into these games…which seems lacking so far in these 1.5 meetings.
It seems
like they’re struggling with how physical the Flyers are. They are yet to respond to it.
by Mandmeisterx on Nov 16, 2009 7:58 PM EST up reply actions
Maybe? What obscures this is the fact that A) the Devils did get some decent chances on Emery and B) the Devils have constantly started off these games from behind on this winning streak.
In a way, I want to agree; yet based on recent performance, the best is yet to come.

Apparently, White’s clearance, well, uh, didn’t. And that led to the whole sequence of events.

are letting the Devil’s know the Eastern Conference Championship will def run through the city of Philadelphia.

Likely Fraser and Murphy. Before you start asking why not Mottau, he’s been absolutely massive on the blueline, playing about 24-26 minutes a night. Granted, tonight isn’t going so well, but I don’t think he’ll or Green will sit.

i was a big murphy fan in preseason, but he would really have to start burying the puck if he wants to see any time when we get healthy
I agree.
It’s just a shame, because I think he brings an element that no one else on our blue line does.

Question for the Devils: Why in the world is MIKE RICHARDS left open just on the blueline? Goodness, defense needs to get their heads out of their respective orifices.

We’re getting closer to the halfway mark. Against Pittsburgh, the Devils really “turned it on” to get that win. But then, they were only down by 1 if I recall correctly. And the Pens weren’t bombing Brodeur from everywhere on offense. Maybe this comparison is pointless.

Again..
I don’t think they really “believe” they can beat this team..whether it is conscious or sub conscious.
Nor have the missed passes. Apparently, Elias nearly had a breakaway but the long pass from Bergfors was too far.

So when does the comeback start?
(I don’t have audio or visual feed)

On 3rd down, throw it to Smith.
What’s this a chance?
Dainius Zubrus draws a call in the corner. This would be a great time to start a comeback.

I notice that because the Flyers are a physical team, they seem to get away with being a lot more physical. There’ve been several interference calls that weren’t.

Short of a quick miracle, you may be right. Poor passing, poor shooting, poor defending, and an inability to adjust isn’t going to lead to victory.

Story of the game
Devil gets tripped, no call; fight for possession; Flyers block a shot; Devils fight for possession again; brilliant conception of a pass into the slot to an open man and he whiffs.
This isn’t my Buffalo Bills. I won’t quit until the final horn. They have been known to pull one out in the nick of time.

Someone, don’t remember who, tried to get something going with Carcillo when they were down 2-0, but the Flyers smartly wouldn’t go.
I don’t know that a fight would have changed anything either, I just found it surprising that there were no fights as these two teams getting together is almost always good for at least one… and with them indicting inducting Schultz, one would think the stage would have been set.

Philly has
the depth and confidence that they have lacked in years. Will be tough to overcome them head to head or for the overall Atlantic title this season.
Maybe. But you can argue that was the case last season and they got bounced out of the first round too.
Let’s see how well this team is playing by February. After all, they’re still tied with the Islanders as of tonight. They deserved to win tonight, but let’s not crown them yet.
