Question for the readers

Should I respond to this article point-by-point over the next few days?

P.S. Thanks for making this a FanShot, Devilman3030 – this is really the intended use for links, pictures, video, small stuff to share that’s not already on the blog.

A True Jackass

First off, the article is not even well written. He basically just relies on the fact that the Devils have not advanced far in the playoffs in the last 4 years as de-facto evidence that. He does not provide any other evidence of why he right. Other than tear the Devils down, what is even the point of the article?

On to Marty. So, Lou is a dope for riding his goalie eh? Well what should the Devils do meathead, NOT rely on one of the best players in league history? Yeah, maybe the right approach would be a platoon system for goalies.

As I pointed out a few months back, certainly the playoffs have not been what we hoped. But the Devils are losing to quality opponents.

Rip this guy a new one John.

Why stop there?

Your welcome John, I say go for it. In fact maybe even a coment on newsday’s paper it’s self. Especially since the writer does highschool sports and is doing articles on professional sports. Lets see if this guy knows as much as he thinks he does

long island's newspaper

i’d certainly like to see what this writer has to say about newsday’s local area team, the islanders…especially the chapter entitled "the milbury years’

Newsday’s local team is the Islanders and he’s killing the Devils? Oh, this is going to be FUN to write!

I Also Say Go For It

As I was thinking of doing the same thing myself. Clearly written by somebody who doesn’t know a damn thing about this team. Theres so many flaws to this article, I feel like you would probably dissect him with his errors and embarass him on his own article.

As soon as someone says a team who focuses on defense isn’t built for the playoffs, I stop reading.

I’d welcome your breaking it down.

None of the draft picks in the last four years have made it to the big club? Gee, I wonder why…maybe it’s because NHL prospects usually take a few years to develop? We can’t all draft a John Tavares who can come right into the NHL, but then again, we can’t all suck as badly as the Islanders have for so very long.

Of course, if the writer of this article worked for a newspaper that covered an actual NHL team, as opposed to the Islanders…

I would love to see a point-by-point dismantling of this article. Who does this dude think he is, Larry Brooks?

I emailed the meathead

I probably did not do as good of a job as John will, but I could not hold back. Below is what I sent
*********************

I love the logic of guys like you who just instinctively hate the Devils.

“But Lamoriello has it wrong. He’s had it wrong since the lockout, even though the Devils have won three Atlantic Division titles in those four seasons.”

Oh, I understand, winning three Division titles, somehow that does not count. For anything. Because unless you win the cup every two or three years, when 30 other teams are trying to do the same, you really aren’t successful. The Devils don’t just have it a little wrong, they have it “all wrong”.

So who does have it right Arthur, the Rangers? The Islanders? Because the Rangers 1 Cup in 70 years is really impressive.

The Red Wings and Penguins are top franchises right now. No doubt. As a hockey fan, I RESPECT them enough to appreciate what they have accomplished. But where was Pittsburgh 4 seasons ago? Dead last. Does that mean they “had it all wrong”. They now have several guys who could be among the all time greats – good job by them, and it was great to watch in last years final. That does not make the Devils a failure “when it counts”. The Red Wings have one two cup in this decade. Just like the Devils. Does that mean they “had it all wrong” the other seasons when they don’t win it? No, they are a tremendously run franchise – just like the Devils.

Oh, and you are probably right. If you have a great goalie, one of the greats of all time, you probably don’t want to rely on him too much. Maybe we would “have it right” if he played only 50 games a year, and we spent extra cap money on more accomplished backup goalie just so Marty could play fewer games. Great logic there.

For a few minutes, "observers’ like you get me worked up. But then I just recount the Devils 3 Stanley Cups and last 15 years of CONSISTENT WINNING and I just laugh it off

I guess you did your job, you got me to read your paper. But I think you are a meathead.

Go Devils.

+1 for calling him a meathead.

by elesias on Nov 24, 2009 10:21 PM EST up reply actions

What...the...hell?

Arthur Staple has got it wrong. All of it. Apparently to him, the previous Stanley Cup championships and Atlantic Division titles and numerous playoff appearances never existed in his life. What a credible sports journalist he is.

John, I strongly encourage you to tear this to pieces!

Beer is good! And stuff!

it would be easier to argue the world is flat

every year some team wins the stanley cup.every year (sept the hurricanes whatever year that was) the team that wins it has players from lou’s organization as part of the core of the team.he has had a massive positive effect on the entire nhl.

by Imperator_Celtic on Nov 24, 2009 11:29 PM EST reply actions

ridiculous article.

I disagree with everything he said except for the part about overplaying Brodeur. He is 37 years old and not using the backup enough only hurts the backups performance when he does play because he is rusty. It showed last game when he gave up 3 goals in the first period.

A back-up's job

A back-up’s job is to be able to play when called on rusty or not, to provide maybe not an athleticly superior, but at least a competent player in net.

I think he’s trolling

by dsarch on Nov 25, 2009 6:58 AM EST reply actions

This is how it works here

This is exactly why i brought the article to everyones attention. Here on the island amoungst Ranger and Islander writers this is the retoric i deal with all the time.Everytime the devils are brought up. Your lucky if one article comes out that does not call them losers

by Devilman3030 on Nov 25, 2009 1:11 PM EST reply actions

Yet they kinda consider them a NY team? Isn’t that rich?

Well, tomorrow, I’ll have plenty to say about that – you’ll see. You’ll all see!

blah blah blah—marty should retire, blah blah blah—can’t win in the playoffs. Sounds like that article was written by a whiny ranger or islander fan who is trying to sound factual and “newsy”. I wish he touched on the payroll of the rangers the last few years and how much success they have had because of it. Hope he’s willing to follow the fishlanders to Kansas City when the lighthouse project sinks! Ride that Tavares train as long as you can kids. No way in hell is he re-signing with them once he’s a free agent.
