Game #15: New Jersey Devils @ Ottawa Senators

New Jersey Devils at Ottawa Senators, Nov 7, 2009 7:00 PM EST

First Meeting of the Season

TV: MSG Plus 2

Radio: WBBR 1130 AM

Previews: Mine is below, though you can just click here for it.  Peter R of Silver Seven has an Ottawa-based preview up as well.

Song to Get You Pumped Up But Also Make You Think Deeply About Tonight's Matchup and Ready to THRASH: If you expected Bruce Springsteen tonight, then you're forgetting that I'm not Steve. The Boss is not the Boss of me. Besides, hockey is an aggressive sport and as such we need aggressive music. Tonight it is "The Marshall Arts" by Razor. It's a thrashing instrumental that opens with an excellent scream, so bang your heads.

Join me in the comments.  As always:  Keep the comments clean, you keep them on-topic (tangents OK, talking about the Devils/Senators is OK, but I don't want to turn this into a Canadian thrash metal thread and/or a Dean McAmmond love-fest just in case Peter R is reading this), and support theNew Jersey Devils.

Per the pregame interview by Steve Cangelosi: Tim’s excited about tonight’s game. He hasn’t worried about numbers and whathaveyou, but he says that’s what helped him got 7 goals so far.

He wants throw some hits, play solidly on defense, and get some pucks deep. Fair enough. Best of luck from him.

The game has begun and Ottawa strikes first with offense thanks to Michalek-Spezza-Alfredsson. Brodeur held on and shoved Michalek away.

The Devils respond on the ensuing faceoff, rush down, and Zubrus HITS THE POST.

Devils and Senators are even in shots and probably in missed shots as well – action is constant, but neither goalie has had to be brilliant yet.

First great save of the night courtesy of Leclaire. Rolston had a nice move to get free, slides cross-ice to Langenbrunner and Leclaire needed to move quickly to stop the one-timer.

Period is over

17 seconds will carry over on the Senators’ power play.

Basically the Devils got burned by a defensive breakdown and so it is 1-0. The good news is that the Devils are entirely familiar with being down 1-0 on the road. Can they equalize again?

The Devils, well, over the whole period, I can’t say they played well. But they looked worlds better after their fourth power play as they got some offensive pressure, moved the puck around, got pucks to the net, and most importantly, scored.

I feel the Ottawa forecheck and speed is still dangerous and they got a gift due to a bad goal given up by Brodeur, but the Devils seemingly have more confidence now and they’re going to need it to tie this game up.

The Devils have done this on the road already this season so it can be done. The big question is whether they will or not.

My take is- 2nd ever game, not to bad. I would much rather see a fourth line Sestito HAlishuk and Pandolfo ( who could also be a PP specialist) than Pikkarainin or PL3.

I felt he was more than acceptable tonight. In fact, for much of the game, he was energetic, he was involved in the play, and I think he played rather well for a call-up.

All I need is for the rangers to follow up with a loss and this will be a great hockey night.

You’ll have to wait up for that. That game hasn’t started yet.

I’ll get to recapping shortly.
