Game #29 - Devils vs. Florida Panthers

Florida Panthers at New Jersey Devils, Dec 11, 2009 7:00 PM EST

TV: MSG Plus

Radio: WFAN 660 AM

Previews: Scroll for Fischer's, and Litter Box Cats brings you Panthers joy.

Lineup Note: Scott Clemmensen, ILWT's 2nd Team all-decade goaltenderwill start for the Panthers in goal vs. Marty.

Song to Get You Pumped Up But Also Make You Think Deeply About Tonight's Game: Our third Gaslight Anthem song of the season, and for a special reason tonight: Here's "(Say I Won't) Recognize" off the Senor and the Queen EP.

Join Fischer (live from The Rock) in the comments.  This is sort of a lost weekend for me, as a Gaslight Anthem concert (if you're at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair tonight, say hey!) and work (a Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert - they're big Devils fans, by the way) will keep us from commenting.  But hang with the great John Fischer anyway.  Da' rules as always: keep it clean and relevant (GOOD: comments about the game, something you saw on the broadcast, Devils-Panthers related talk; BAD: Complaining about all The Gaslight Anthem songs I use).  And above all, support the New Jersey Devils.  Everybody's shakin' like the end of the world.

Correction: YOUR third Gaslight anthem. Were it up to me, it would be all about staying warm with the smooth grooves of Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins on This Is It (its all not metal with me)

But seriously, the NHL.com is highlighting this as another chance for 104. I ask you, devils supporter, to focus on the result and team play should there be no shutout. No one wants to be the answer to a trivia question.

Note, I do tease about the song and the concept of the “royal we”

If I have to hear “Ya’mmo Be There” one more time, I’ll Ya’ammo Burn this place to the ground.

And Kenny Loggins, only if it’s “Highway to the Danger Zone”.

Once again, I must educate you.

So on the lower concourse TVs during the warmups, the audio is apparently WFAN. Watching Zajac skate around while Steve Sommers is talking about something entirely different. It’s odd.

Oh yeah, Sec. 1 Row 16 as usual. Fans taking their time coming in.

I don't know what held up worse over time...

Kenny Loggins “Highway to the danger zone” or Top Gun itself…whew…argument for the ages.

You may ask, what was the Devils defense was doing on the goal. I am asking the same thing.

Devils need to be at bit more accurate on their shots, I think I saw 6 misses already.

I’d also like to see more pressure, the play is somewhat even. Try to make, this game yours Devils

Passing by the Devils has been inconsistent at best, hence an inconsistent offense. Devils need to hustle a little more.

Florida leads based on the highest quality shot in the period. They aren’t exactly storming on the ice, the Devils definitely have the opportunity to take control. They better at least before Florida realizes they can do the same.

You know, maybe if the Devils were awake for the first five minutes, perhaps they wouldn’t have to make such a big comeback.

The Panthers stopped trapping, but their passing as well as Clemmensen got them out of serious trouble since Rolston’s goal.

Devils will need one massive third period to get something out of this one. Hope they do it, killing this penalty is the first step.

Devils aren’t giving up, but so many missed and blocked shots. Control is key even when time is tight.

Passing was garbage, Devils paid for not starting well and – get this – the team that actually played 60 minutes won tonight! Just like I said in the preview.

Fans were loud and not happy, but this can be forgiven (somewhat) with a win tomorrow. Game ended early, so the recap should be up sooner than usual.

One last thought, given the first three goals against, it didn’t ultimately matter if Danish started or not.
