New York Rangers Fire Head Coach Tom Renney

I'm watching NHL Live on the NHL Network and they're discussing Renney getting fired.  It will be interesting to see what direction the team goes.  Renney emphasized the trap in New York and it will be interesting to see what direction the new coach takes the team.

I do think that Glen Sather deserves a big share of the blame for the team this year.  I mean he was the one who signed Fading Wade Redden to that big deal.  He signed Gomez and then lost the goal scorer in Jagr.  He gave too much money to Chris Drury.  Renney had the fault of being too nice and supportive to his players, but Sather has tied up waaaaay too much money in salary cap mistakes.

I'm betting the Rangers go with someone with a much harder edge next.  Pat Quinn?  John Tortorella?

According to TSN, the Rangers may have something involved with Tortorella. But the NHL’s front office is now involved in seeing if this goes through.

While Tortorella might light a fire under the Rangers, where is the scoring going to come from? The Rangers don’t have Lecavalier, Richards, or St. Louis in that department. So it’ll be interesting if Tortorella can get that going – because that, more than anything else, is their problem. They can’t score enough goals.

May the Rangers continue spiraling down, regardless.

They might be able to score more goals if they open it up more

Renney had them playing a trapping style that was thought to be emphasizing defense. I remember a power skating class when I was a kid and the teacher was behind me with a broom stick the whole time smacking me in the butt telling me to move my ass. I was like eight years old. I can see Tortorella doing that with Prucha.

Adios Senior Renny

I have to say for the most part Renny was a good coach however, he must be held responsible for:

Prucha Not Being In the Lineup
Voros Being In The Lineup
The Power Play Being Brutal.

Torts has them playing a much more agressive offensive style and the pp has shown signs of comming alive a bit. all in all i think the major changes torts will being with him wont be present until the offseason when he sits down with slats and they talk about what personel changes to make in the offseason
