"They know that I'm ready to go," he [Brodeur] said. "I told them a few days ago. I kind of got sick. I wasn't supposed to play on (Long) Island anyway. I think it was good to take some time off too just to get me back. I told them I'm ready and it's up to them to look at me and feel comfortable. That's the bottom line. They have to feel comfortable having me there."
Martin Brodeur says he's ready, according to Gulitti. Will Brent and Lou agree?

Why not?
This might seem crazy, but why not let Marty play one game in Lowell or Trenton? Let him get some game time experience, then he can step in. He said he is nervous about returning. Let him get all the cob webs off, and then he can start.
That's an interesting and not a bad idea, but...
I think that would subject Martin Brodeur to waivers were he sent down on a conditioning assignment. That’s the last thing the Devils want to do – leave their legendary goaltender available for any team in the league to take.
Also: I know Martin Brodeur has a no trade clause in his contract, as pointed out in this ESPN column about the clause. (Aside: Did you know P.J. Axelsson has one? Really!) I’m not sure if it’s also a no-movement clause, and if it is, then I don’t even think the Devils could do that even if they really wanted to do so.
Devils in my heart! Devils in my mind! Devils in my eyes! Devils until I die!
