A Rumor & the College Prospects
A couple of things I found Devils-related over the past day or so that could interest you:
The first item comes from Rich Chere, who has this post about Devils' owner Jeff Vanderbeek hiring Bob Sommer as a "PR guy." Politics in New Jersey is rarely pretty and I think the hiring of a lobbyist is essentially necessary for the organization. You need someone looking out for your interests. But that's not what should grab your interest from that post. This is:
Although Lamoriello will not discuss such matters, the Devils are believed to be among the teams interested in acquiring defenseman Chris Pronger from the Ducks. The clubs likely to be frontrunners for the big blueliner are the Devils, Bruins, Capitals and Canadiens.
I fear the Devils would have to give up quite a bit for Chris Pronger. On the other hand, Pronger would fill a team need for some offensive production from the blueline and he'd be a true stud back there, intimidating offenses all night long. Pronger could really put the Devils over the top, so to speak. And I firmly believe that if a player could make the Stanley Cup a true possibility, you make that move. There are teams who have been in the league for over 40 years without a Cup. The Devils play one of them tonight, actually.
Also from Chere is a nice article about Johnny Oduya. He has truly grown into becoming a top 4 defender this year, and working well as a viable top pairing defenseman along with Paul Martin. He is going to get a massive raise and he has undoubtedly earned it. Hopefully, it'll still be with New Jersey!
Lastly, earlier this week Jared Ramsden has a comprehensive update on each of the current Devils prospects playing in the NCAA. This doesn't include Colgate center David McIntyre, the trade was after the article was in process/published. Pretty much all of the Devils' college prospects have shown potential, but they need more time to develop. He is big on David Wohlberg and Brandon Burlon. If you're into following U of M hockey, check in on each of them from time to time.

Pronger is dirty
and I sincerely hope that rumor remains just that. I have to believe that Lou, with his history of never compromising fitting personalities for victories, would not bring that lumbering, cheap-shot artist here.
Our D may need some tinkering, but the cost, both economically and in the team’s (not to mention fan base’s) morale, is far too high.
I lost all respect for Pronger after the skate stomping incident he had a couple of years ago, but he has forever earned my ire for that late hit on Parise last month.

I've also heard talk that we could work to bring Neids back if the Ducks flame out.
What kind of price would he garner?
