Bad Vibes

This is a very bad sign of things to come in the postseason. Here you have an opportunity to put all of the recent troubles behind by clinching the division at home against an inferior opponent. Instead, the Devils created more doubts by getting run out of their own rink by the Maple Leafs. Brodeur stunk, the defense once again failed to get the puck on net from the point, very little sustained traffic in front of Gerber, in all an absolute embarassment. 48 shots on net, did Gerber get tested at all? Bad powerplay, awful PK, not much speed up front, Im not optimistic at a deep run. Lou will regret not making a puck moving defenseman a priority.

Awful PK? The Devils killed all their penalties. I don’t think the Devils got run out of their own rink; the Leafs just exerted superior finishing and hoped the Devils couldn’t respond (and they didn’t).

I don’t think the Devils are slow; they beat the Leafs’ defense on the puck silly tonight. They were just awful at shooting it and keeping it on net. Bad luck moreso than bad talent, I think. There were a couple points where the Devils would normally just bury it, but they, well, missed.

But yeah, this loss sucks. The division could have been sown up tonight;and the Devils now have further doubts looming going into next week.

I apologize for not being more precise on my original point. In wrapping up about the powerplay, pk and speed I meant in an overall sense, not just against Toronto Tuesday night. Of the three concerns, speed is the least of the worries, but it will be a serious problem in a first round matchup with Pittsburgh.
