Gulitti has been on top of the Devils' coaching situation, reporting today that Peter Laviolette isn't in the running and following up on Jacques Lemaire and Kevin Dineen.

But Gulitti put together this well thought out post about the departure of Brent Sutter. It's a must-read. It's level headed, it's got insight via hindsight coupled with perspective. If you were to ask me to point to a definitive analysis of what happened, this is what I would link to you.

And if you want some red meat after reading that, there's this article from "The Maven" Stan Fischler at Max Hockey. I can't say I disagree with his central thesis. (H/T Devils HF Board, warning: article auto-plays Calgary's coaching annoucement.)

I like Gulliti’s take. It does an excellent job of articulating how I expect most Devils fans feel about the situation. I know in Calgary, a lot of us expected to see Darryl step back behind the bench for this year – especially after his comments about who the best candidates are when Keenan was fired – then for Brent take over next. I’m guessing Lou’s granting permission for Darryl to talk to Brent changed that plan.

As far as Fischler goes, we’re all simply laughing at him. He’s just crying like the playground bully does when someone bigger gets the better of him.

I don’t like Fishler either. I think he is all one sided with the Rangers. Every year he makes a prediction about the Cup Finals and says the Rangers and the Wings. Than 2 months later he changes it something else and says the Rangers win the divsion when they’re are way out. Somebody asks a Devils question he comes back with a Ranger answer. Thats just how I feel about him.

TG’s take is People’s Exhibit A as to why the beat writers like Guilitti and Chere are more useful than the Phil Mushnicks of the world nowadays. TG puts things in a better perspective for people who are more accustomed to making knee-jerk reactions (like myself in most cases).

I don't need no instructions to know how to rock!
