Devils at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft: First Round Open Thread

This is an OPEN THREAD for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. This is a place where you can leave all your comments, thoughts, and quips about what's going on in the first round tonight. This is for all teams, so do not just limit yourself to the Devils. Comment about trades, speculation, thoughts about the players selected, thoughts about who made a dumb decision passing over a player, Pierre McGuire being an annoying MONSTER, (UPDATE: and the salary cap was finally announced: max is $56.8 million - feel free to talk about that too.) etc. It's all good in this thread as long as it's tangibly related to what's going on in this Draft.

Time: 7 PM EST

TV: Versus in the US, TSN in Canada.

If you don't have a TV, go to NHL.com and follow the draft tracker.

If you're in the Newark area or able to get there, come on down to the Devils Draft Party and watch it with hundreds of hockey ~~goons~~ fans like myself. It'll be cool.

Remember: The Devils pick 23rd Overall. Here's that link to the primer that I had last night for all kinds of info.

I plan on sitting in Section 1/22 – basically that corner of the lower bowl should it be available. Come say hi if you want. Otherwise, let the comments BEGIN!

Ok three more picks to go….. This is geting intense for me. I really want Jacob Josefson and hopefully Calgary trades their pick to the Devils because well they owe Lou. Hopefully its the young Swede is Josefson!!!!!

I’m a guy, Rolston is my favorite player thats why. I think he was the best player available and he is a center. Move over John Madden…. No jk nobody can be a player like Johnny Madden. More good years to come with this kid!!!!!

Wow i just rembered that I said before that If the Devils trade up to pick 20 they have a better chance in picking Josefson. What do you know Lou trade to pick 20 and drafts Josefson!!!! Check it out if you don’t believe me it is under a Calvin de Haan preview. I am under LetsGoDevils. It was the second to last comment on the page.

I'm back from the Draft

I’ll have a brief post up of the pick. Quick thoughts:

Calvin de Haan went way, way, way, too high at 12th. Islanders could have had him at 16, I don’t know why they traded up twice to take him over Rundblad, Moore, etc.

Jordan Schroeder dropped like a stone and it can’t be for size – despite the argument made on TSN’s broadcast – as Ryan Ellis went 11th overall and he’s just as small! I wonder what happened!

Naturally, the one guy I figured not to do a preview because I couldn’t find anything BUT good things about him….is the Devils pick. I like the move, based on your (the readers in general) comments earlier.

Well, like the title says, ‘In Lou We Trust.’ Some of the the things he does occassionally send Devils fans into the hockey equivalent of a crisis of faith, but he almost never fails to follow those things up by doing something that reminds everyone why he’s so damn good at his job in the first place.
