Devils Coach Sutter Resigns After Two Seasons
A homesick Brent Sutter resigned as the coach of the New Jersey Devils after just two seasons, citing family reasons and scoffing at the idea that some may criticize him for leaving so soon.

I am not shocked by this at all, Sutter’s comments from the last few weeks made it clear which direction he was choosing. I wonder why it took so long for him to make the announcement though.
I’m curious to see who the next coach will be. Some names I have heard as possibilities are Ted Nolan, Peter Laviolette, Barry Melrose, Mike Haviland, Paul Maclean, John MacLean and Jacques Lemaire. For my part, I’m hoping it is Haviland or Laviolette. If it is Lemaire I think I’ll write a furious letter of protest to Lou.

I don’t think Melrose could even be considered… What about Hartley?

No Melrose, no Laviolette, no Nolan, Havialnd maybe because I just took a look at his numbers in the AHL. Not Bad take a look http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=6363
Woo! I'm not surprised. I also don't care.
The way I look at it, Sutter spent two seasons in the Swamp, which is the longest period of time Lou Lamoriello has gone in recent memory without forcing either the resignation or just flat out firing the current head coach, so the Devils are about due for a coaching change. But am I the only one who has noticed that being the head coach of the Devils is a lot like being the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor in the Harry Potter books?
