Gulitti Reviews the Devils' Head Coaching Options
The day is not even over and Gulitti has a fairly complete and pithy overview of all the potential candidates for the Devils' head coaching position.
It includes former head coaches Jacques Lemaire, Peter Laviolette, and Guy Carbonneau; head coaches who have been in the NHL but not recently like Marc Crawford and Bob Hartley; and assistant coaches who could make the leap like John MacLean, Paul MacLean, and Todd Richards. It's worth the time of any Devils fan interested in the process.
He also dismisses Mike Keenan right away which is a plus.

Head Coach
From what I heard, Lou was waiting for Sutter to want to come to the Devils for several years, so there was never any reason to go with John MacLean and then let him go when Sutter was ready. Now that the short Sutter era is over, I think it’s Johnny Mac’s time to shine. The Devils seem like a very loyal organization, and it should be time to reward one of their own.
Experience
Yeah but Johnny Mac has no coaching experience. Haviland would be a good canidate or even Peter Lavelette.
