"I don't think this is a change in direction," Lamoriello said. "It's a change of people pushing other people. The core is still there. But you can't keep everybody. The cap is going down next year."
Chere has what I think is the definitive quote from Lou Lamoriello about today's signings.
I want to put that last sentence in big, bold, flashing lights. Lou's thinking years from now, you know, when Martin and Parise need new deals.
Also, from that link, the Devils are looking at someone abroad from Europe. Hmmm...

"the Devils are looking at someone abroad from Europe"
Who are you talking about?
The Future
The problem with what the Devils did today is they did nothing to improve themselves, Marty isn’t getting any younger and we should use his remaining years in the league to strive for another cup, we lost Gionta today and are going to try to fill the holes with mediocre prospects from the AHL? We needed to sign a forward such as Hossa, Havlat, Gaborik, Camelleri to replace Gio and we failed to do that, without replacing him, the Devils will be worse than they were last year and may fail to advance past the first round once again. Lou, I love this team, by being cheap and not spending the money to improve this team you’re breaking my heart.
Gio is going to be replaced by Rolston,
who is an upgrade, in my opinion. The only holes we have are 2nd line center and some spots on the bottom two lines. I have no problem with guys from the AHL filling the latter, but the first is something I feel we should have (and still may) addressed, but it’s not as if there were a lot of great options out there, short of trading for Scott Gomez and his 7.5 mil cap hit. HAHAHA
Changed my mind....
Take a look at this list of players that weren’t signed….
