Is the Economy in Canada Better than the US or Something?
I'm not sure I've ever seen Canadian teams in the NHL ever go so hog wild during free agency as they have this year. Just today, the Senators signed Alexei Kovalev and the Leafs signed Francois Beauchemin.
This follows the Montreal Canadiens ridiculous, and not necessarily intelligent, spending spree on Scott Gomez, Brian Gionta, Jaroslav Spacek and Hal Gill. The Leafs have also gone a bit nuts while Calgary spent a lot of dollars to lock up Jay Bouwmeester and Edmonton was trying to bring Dany Heatley in and signed Nickolai Khabibulin. None of the Canadian teams have really sat out the free agent frenzy and I'm just wondering, is Canada not going to feel the effect of the upcoming drop in the salary cap? Is the economy so much better up there right now? What's the deal, Canadians?

You see, let me break it down for you.
Gainey’s not smart and I don’t think he understands the concept of limited funds.
Murray’s panicking as a result of being stalled by the Heatley fiasco (e.g. WHY IS CHRIS NEIL GETTING $2 MILLION THIS IS SO BAD I HAVE TO TYPE IT IN ALL CAPS)
Darryl Sutter’s on the hot seat and figured getting Jay-Bo could be a massive coup for the Flames…until someone else wants to get paid.
Tambellini feels age is only a number – and should be praying that it only is for Khabi.
Burke is going gritty with all kinds of splashes, though the Beauchemin move is actually a very smart one should he get back to his former self.

So this leaves out Vancouver as smart
Because of them locking up the Sedins, right or right?

I was going to say yes (Sedins signed for relatively reasonable amounts of money), but then they went out and signed Andrew Raycroft today.

Andrew Raycroft is FAIL!
Why he is a hockey player I want to really know. He should’ve been better off as a Moosehead salesman or whatever.

Turth be told...
…signing Raycroft to a minimum deal and possible as a #3 goalie isn’t nearly as bad as giving CHRIS NEIL $2 MILLION/YEAR FOR FOUR YEARS WHAT A STUPID DEAL.

The Raycroft deal looks a lot worse if it's only a one way deal.
But yeah, Chris Neil still sucks.

That's a good question
So far all I’ve seen was that he signed a $500,000 deal for one year. For Vancouver’s sake, it should be a two-way deal!

He has to be the worst goalie ever,
save his rookie year. These stats sum it up. Link

Yeah really.
I cannot think of anybody worse than Raycroft in the history of everything.
