Time Out NY: Devils Retro Green Jersey Tease!

Time Out NY just did an article and photoshoot with Vampire Weekend where they dressed them as Hockey players.

Producer and keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij was wearing a retro green/red NJ Devils jersey which at first I thought was the jersey that was to be unveiled on St. Patrick's day. But alas it is just an actual vintage Red/Green jersey upon closer inspection.

Even more curios is why the shoot which I imagine is supposed to have all 4 band members representing different jerseys from the greater NY area teams would then have someone in an Albany River Rats jersey rather than a Buffalo Sabres one.

I knew it was too good to be true to think the Devs had the marketing acumen to unveil the jersey in such away. But at least the hype will now build for whenever we are first able to lay our eyes on the new Green/Red sweaters.

I would hope the Devils would unveil the new jersey with a bigger fan fare than Vampire Weekend wearing it in an article; but it is cool to see the Deviled-NJ as part of a promo-post for a band.

Well it may not be a huge press conference at the Rock. But holding yet another press conference to the same hockey reporters who would cover the new jersey anyway doesn’t do much for the Club’s reach as piggy backing ionto something that is going to get a lot of attention outside the immediate hockey community AND still have those same hockey journalists and pick up on it.

don't hate me for saying this but...

…I love the old jerseys especially the white outline highlight as in the shoulder area. I just wish they swapped all green areas for black because the Christmas colors just don’t work for me. I was young when they went to red and black but I remember saying “thank god” when that happened.
OK, let the hate mail start rolling in.

I remember saying the same thing when i was a kid and hating the Red/Green colors. But as i’ve gotten older i’ve really started loving the color combo.

Well I definitely can live with the green but I still prefer black.
I photoshopped the green to black and did a Devils jersey “history” image with my hybrid design (retro styling + current colors). It looks pretty cool and I WISH i could get it produced somewhere. Oh, and I said “history” in quotes because it’s not like we’ve had 10 jersey variations by now but meant no disrespect to my beloved state’s team.

not sure it's even a real vintage uni...

the chest logo is all wrong – even in 82-83 the horns/J were wider and had a white outline, not green. maybe it’s a concept or preseason uni but it’s not what the Devils wore on the ice in 82-83.

that said – he’s wearing warrior gloves which are definitely NOT vintage. my guess is those will probably end up being the gloves the Warrior-sponsored Devils will wear in March.
