Elias to IR, Corrente to Lowell
I'm guessing it's a concussion though no one wants to admit it.
Editor's Note: You're sort of right. The word is concussion symptoms, according to Lou as reported by Gulitti. Not the same thing, but the Devils are wise to play it safe all the same.
Patrick Davis and Nick Palmieri have been called up in the meantime.

Wow that stinks
I’m unfamiliar with how NHL IR works. I know in the NFL once you’re on it, you’re out for the year. How long does Elias have to stay out for?

They can come off IR a week after their last game. So since Elias was hurt on Sunday I think he could come back this Sunday.

Great question.
A player has to be on IR for at least seven days, even though players can be retroactively put on IR. As Gulitti said in his column, while he was placed retroactively to Saturday’s game, he can’t go until next Tuesday. So the earliest he came come back is next week when the Devils play Ottawa on the 26th – assuming he’s cleared and ready to go by then.
I certainly hope it is. The last thing Elias needs as to play with symptoms and then suffer a full concussion (or worse).

Alright thanks

Not good
The Devils better do a good job updating us on Elias. I remember it was in January 2004 and a week after Scott Stevens’ symptoms we were kept in the dark. Now Stevens symptoms ended his career, and Elias is younger and I don’t think as beat up. However, if this turns out to be a long injury, I would like them to notify us the potential of this upon Elias’s reexamination later this week.
I know, I’m asking for too much. Sorry.
Well, I think Gulitti and Chere have done a fine job reporting on this. I mean, we know how the CT scans went after the Colorado game, and we have quotes from Lou himself on the matter this whole time.
I don’t think anyone’s going to be kept in the dark on this. I’m not sure what more you can ask for. Lou’s leaving this up to the experts because the last thing he (and presumably Elias and, of course, us) wants is Elias suffering long term because he played with symptoms.

Better safe than sorry
The last thing we need is Elias taking another hit to the head and seizuring on the ice or something. Better he takes the time he needs to heal up, so he’s 100%.
But hot damn, I am excited about these call ups. Davis played one NHL game last year I think, though I don’t remember if he was any good. But Palmieri leads Lowell in goals (I think, gonna have to double check that). Not that I expect these kids to light the rink on the fire (and I’d rather have a healthy Elias), but who knows, maybe they’re the spark the Devs need to get out of this slump.
