Pikkarainen sent to CSKA Moscow

"The Devils assigned right wing Ilkka Pikkariainen to CSKA Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League today. Pikkarainen cleared waivers last Friday and the Devils had 30 days to assign him somewhere without having to put him through waivers again. CSKA Moscow is coached by former Devil Sergei Nemchinov and former Devil Slava Fetisov is the president of the team, so the Devils obviously have connections there."

Per a later post by Gulitti, Pikkarainen’s salary will be paid by CSKA Moscow.

In a way, I feel bad for Pikkarainen as I felt he was more useful and energetic than Peters and Leblond. On the other hand, he never really grasped the opportunities he was given in New Jersey.

His contract ends after this season. If he does well in the KHL, he may just remain there. I think we may have seen the last of Ilkka Pikakrainen, but weirder things have happened before.

A collective shrug of indifference can be seen throughout all of the Devils’ nation. I agree with you John. Ikka played better than Leblond and Peters combined. but he never really grasped the opportunities he was given. He had plenty of time to prove himself. I found him to be an average to above average player on the Devils, and I guess that doesn’t make the cut anymore. Good luck to you Ikka.
