There is absolutely no reason a goal scorer like Kovalchuk whose put in over 300 goals at left wing should be moved to the opposite wing. He has been one of the top players in this league at LW. Maclean needs to realize that you do not spend $100 million dollars on a LW whose put up the numbers he has at that position, and then move him to the right wing slot. Yes he is producing on the right side but the team is still struggling. I believe he would be a force to be reckoned with if he was flying down the left side. You do not even need to know much about hockey to realize that if someone is producing at one position there is no need to throw him into a different position. Kovalchuk has one great move where he skates down the left cuts into the middle and rips a rocket and scores pretty frequently. He cannot do this from the other side it is just impossible!! please please Maclean move Elias to right and Kovalchuk back to his natural position, so that he can score 40-50 goals this season. At right wing the team will continue to struggle offensively. The devils need to put their biggest investment ever into the position he has grown most comfortable in.
This move might just add the spark that is necessary for the Devils to turn it up a notch.
There are many more factors that have put the devils at their 1-4-1 record. Injuries, a young defensive group, poor back checking by the forwards, lack of energy, sub par goaltending are just a few that are hurting this team. But you cant solve everything at once. If Kovalchuk can get back on the left side and get more quality shots in the position he seems most comfortable in, I believe the slump can become history.
