Around SBN: The Infuriating Jose Molina

Per @NHLDevils, the Devils have assigned Mike McKenna, Matthew Corrente, Jacob Josefson, Mattias Tedenby to Albany of the AHl. Rob Davison is on waivers.

Instant Reaction:
Davison on waivers and Tedenby/McKenna being assigned to Albany I expected. Corrente and Josefson were surprising to me. Could it be that theirentry level deals proved problematic when compared with a $500K deal that a Mark Fraser or Matt Taormina has? Well Alexander Urbom is still here......

Of course the roster isnt final yet and Corrente or Josefson could come right back to New Jersey, but I thought Josefson was set at the third line center. I do not think that Adam Mair is the answer at third line center. Can I start the Brendan Morrison speculation now? Or should we wait for a day?

Assuming Bryce Salvador and Anssi Salmela both start the year on LTIR, the defensemen currently in camp are:

Anton Volchenkov, Henrik Tallinder, Colin White, Andy Greene, Mark Fraser, Alexander Urbom, Matt Taormina

That third pairing is sure going to be interesting........

Two Questions

A) Does that mean Matt Taormina made the roster and b) are Josefson and Tedenby ruled out for opening night?

I think for now that is the situation, but it could all change pending a trade/waiver move. Congratulations to Urbom and Taormina for making it past the last round of cuts

I guess this means I can order my Mair jersey now…

As long as he is playing fourth line minutes……

I’m dissapointed that josefson couldn’t make the team..he definitly needs to work on face offs. Tedenby needs the year and he will probably be in rookie of year consideration next season. I’m suprised corrente still isn’t able to make this team..I think he might come up once salvador returns and is traded/demoted. Taromina seems like a good offensive defenceman and Urbom has been really impressive thus far. Congrats to those two.

i think that once a trade/waiver move is made to get under the cap, somebody will be brought back up. if they get rid of somebody like zubrus, they will need somebody to fill the roster spot, regardless of what line he plays on.

D pairings

Volchenkov – White/Greene

White/Green – Frasier

I really don’t know much about Taorimina.

I’d say it would be like this:
Volchenkov-Green/Urbom
Tallinder-Green/Urbom
White/Tarromina

by zach parise9 on Oct 4, 2010 4:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Urbom plays he is going to play with Tallinder.

No it is not…one player likely Zubrus will be moved.

by zach parise9 on Oct 4, 2010 4:10 PM EDT up reply actions

this is defintely surprisiung… maybe the trade brings us a rd line center (that we clearly don’t have)

by KovyisLove on Oct 4, 2010 4:16 PM EDT reply actions

with this roster, dainius zubrus would be the 3rd line center.

by Triumph44 on Oct 4, 2010 4:19 PM EDT reply actions

hes most likely traded

I certainly have a lot to say about these developments. A post will be coming shortly. Thanks Tom.

Start the speculation Tom

I did mention it back in April

I have respect for most sports fans with 2 exceptions: NY Ranger fans who grew up in New Jersey, and Dallas Cowboy fans who can't name the capital of Texas.

and end it. brendan morrison already signed with the flames.

by Triumph44 on Oct 4, 2010 5:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Wow, Josefson is a shocker. The others are not.

To me, this has to mean a trade is close to completion. The only guy capable of playing third line center outside of Josefson is Zubrus, and if Zubrus is waived, not traded, then we won’t get anyone in return to fill that hole. I’m not aware of free agent centers available who could be more than a fourth liner.
