Devils in on Kovy talks?
ESPN's Rumor Central is claiming the Devils might be in on the Kovalchuk trade talks.
"The New York Rangers have reportedly offered a package to theAtlanta Thrashers for Ilya Kovalchuk, but the New York Post reports that they were "low-ball" offers. (Plus, New York may not have enough assets to trade for him.) Meanwhile, the Post writes that Thrashers GM Don Waddell was scouting the Los Angeles Kings, which might mean he's cherry-picking the guys he wants in a deal with L.A.
But what about their rivals from across the Hudson River? We've heard rumblings that the Devils might step up to the plate for Kovalchuk (and Denis Potvin mentioned the possibility on XM radio on Tuesday), in spite of the fact that Lou Lamoriello usually stays away from the big-ticket players at the trade deadline. The organization is usually pretty quiet about deals until they come to pass, but this would be a very surprising move for a team that rarely chases superstars and their pricey contract demands."

What does everyone else think, the idea of Kovalchuk in a Devils jersey for the playoffs this year gives me a boner. Weigh in below.

Never Happen
If Andrew Peters ever plays again it will be too soon.
At what cost
Obviously he is first class talent, but what would it take? I don’t mind first round picks being traded, because you dont always get a productive player from first round picks.
David Hale-Adrian Foster-JF Damphousee-Lance Ward- Ari Ahonen were all first round picks for us, and none of them were superstars for us, although David Hale was ok for us.
Even players in our system I wouldn’t mind because you still are gambling until they actually make it.
My problem with any deal involving Kovalchuk is that they would want a player off our roster with a Z in thier name, and I don’t mean Zubrus.
Why do some people have trouble with using links? There’s a big “link” icon, looks like a chain, where you can enter the URL and so a reader can click on it. In fact, if you highlight a word/phrase/sentence and then click it, the words act as a link.
Anyway, no, this isn’t going to happen. Devils don’t have the assets and Kovalchuk doesn’t fill a need.

It definitely wouldn’t take Zajac or Parise, I do believe we have the assets, a player like Bergfors, a prospect like Josefson, and a first round pick would definitely get the job done, i just don’t think that trade would be worth it for a rental player, because were not going to give Kovy the contract he wants after the season.

Would Love It, but It Won't Happen!
A scorer like kovalchuck is just what the Devils need, but Lou is looking for more then a rental for the year. Atlanta will demand alot of young talent and Kovalchuck will demand a big contract, two things Lou does not like to give up, young talent and money. Lou needs to get with the new NHL, his old tactics won’t work anymore! He already let the next Scott Stevens get away in Phanuff. Hey my fellow Devil fans, don’t get your hopes up!
East or West
Espn Rumor Central says the kovy deal is down to two suitors, and eastern conference team and a western conference team. My prediction is that the eastern conference teams are either the devils and the rangers, considering their assistant GM was present at the lowell vs hartford game last night in newark. Only western conference team that stands out is LA. Bob Mckenzie of TSN states that the Devils would have to give up Rolston, Zubrus, and a defensivemen. This might just happen, but we will just have to sit back and wait.
doesn't Rolston have a NTC?

Seems to be a done deal, Kovy coming to NJ

Go Jets
Go Devils
On the Ranger game
They just reported it’s Bergfors, Oduya, Cormier and 2010 #1 pick.
Go Jets
Go Devils
Well, doesn't this look prescient
What was I thinking? Now that it happened, I am singing a different tune. Huh.
