Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

The Devils’ non-Olympians resume practice at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Prudential Center and the hope is that defenseman Paul Martin and right wing David Clarkson will be able to participate.

"We’re waiting for the doctors’ OKs," Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello told me this morning.

Tom Gulitti reports that not only will the New Jersey Devils practice tomorrow for the first time in weeks, but Paul Martin and David Clarkson might be involved too. Clarkson AND Martin? That would be massive if they get the medical approvals to practice.

That's right. A week from now, we're back to Devils (and NHL) hockey. Just a small reminder.

Wow, the Olympics are going by faster than I thought they would. Can’t wait for Martin and Clarkson to be back!

I really miss NHL hockey. I hope the break does the Devils good.

Definitely miss Devils hockey as well, guys. Although the Olympics are definitely going by really quickly. I’m looking forward to seeing Clarkson and Martin back in the lineup and seeing how this team rebounds. Certainly Brodeur not playing for a little while during this time period would be a wonderful thing in my eyes. Also, I think this olympic competition will only do good things for players like Parise, Langenbrunner, Kovalchuk and Elias, all of whom I foretell will have an extra boost added to their game when the NHL begins agin.

I’m simultaneously excited and nervous by the prospect of the season resuming.

Big test in the Sharks, in San Jose, right out of the gate.

When Clarkson returns

Who do you bring down? Is Zharkov the only option? Also, who is the 7th defenseman when Martin returns? Initially I would think Salmela but with the ice time he has been receiving it probably won’t be. Same goes for Mottau.

Corrente was already sent down right before the break. At NHL.com he’s listed in the last game against Carolina as a Defenseman (with 3:16 TOI), though I thought I remembered him playing Forward.

Regardless, as is, that leaves 5 Defensemen, so Martin could slide in without having to move anyone. And as far as Clarkson fitting in, it could be Zharkov or they could sit someone else like Pelley or Pandolfo or McAmmond. My guess would be Pandolfo again, as the other two are Centermen.

I hope Lemaire would go with Zajac, Zubrus, Niedermayer, and McAmmond as centers so that Pelley could sit and we could keep Pandolfo in.
