Is Lou Done Adding Pieces to this Team?
So we picked up Kovy, and I'm psyched as hell now. (will be even more psyched if he turns into more than a rental but we'll see what happens in July with that)
For now though, do we still need to pick up a stud-D-man? Average D-man? Or are we fine with defense as is, since Martin will hopefully return after the Olympic break?
I kind of would hate to give up more prospects or star players (like Clarkson) for a rental. I think our D still has one problem in Mottau—can't say that makes me comfortable for a deep playoff run. Not sure going after the original Nieder is necessary, but getting someone a little more reliable than Mottau I think would be a good final move to complete this team.
(appologies in advance, as I'm not that familiar with NHL rosters so I don't have an "average D man" to suggest to replace Motts)

I definitely don’t think the Devils are done adding pieces to this roster.
I had a feeling that the Devils would pick up one explosive scorer, and that feeling has become a reality. But I also believe that our defense still needs one top four player added in order for this team to be in contention. That being said, I think Scott Niederymayer may fill that roll. I think that’s the biggest reason why Lou picked up Rob during the off-season; he fills a roll on this team, but I think Rob might lure Scott into coming back.

I love the Devils legend that is Scotty, but I’m really worried about his age and what we’d have to give up for him.
If a move for someone were to be made, and after the Kovy move, all these trades do not seem in line with how Lou works. I am not complaining though— It is always risky, but for us fans, it is exciting and hopeful.

Wow, the original Nieder?
Not sure, but I think Rob and Scott’s father would be too old. Plus I don’t think he even plays hockey :-)
But seriously, I suspect Toronto isn’t done dealing. I doubt Kaberle would be available, but what do people think about Exelby? I’ve seen his name mentioned in the rumor pages and I think he might be “a change of scenery would do him a world of good” kind of guy. He’s only -5 with just 3 assists, so I can’t believe he’s awful defensively.

ha!, I meant their grandpa. LOL
Now that you mention Exelby, that is an interesting thought. Embarrassingly I have to admit that I only know of his skill through my xBox NHL games. He is on my Devils team there though and is a great value. I would say that at (-5) that can’t be too bad considering how poorly Toronto played for most of the season. (past 2 games VS us excluded)

Great name, average player. He never impressed me.

defense!
I doubt Scotty will return. However, would love it dearly and would forgive him for the departure. We need help on D. Lasts nights game was proof. If this teams wants to take on the Capitals or Pens for a cup run lets get a dman we need. we have a top scorer, goaltending, depth and dfense is the final piece of the puzzle. Lets make it happen and….LETS GO DEVILS!!!!
