per Gulitti:

“Devils backup goaltender Yann Danis will get the start in net for the Devils tonight against the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum.”

No other changes to the roster for tonight’s game.

Danis makes the first save of the night.

But the first line does get on, get a stop in the neutral zone, Zubrus and Parise attack and Parise puts a good shot on Roloson.

Both get chances. We’re pretty much running the show.

now

just need the 3rd line to step offensively, be a legitimate threat and we’re set, although i would like to zharkov in the lineup over pandolfo

do they

practice the power play, or is it just kind of free flowing, make it up as you go? this is piss poor for a contender. come on guys,

by bdevil89 on Mar 13, 2010 7:32 PM EST reply actions

Power play kept looking to go cross-ice, which isn’t a bad idea, but the Isles expected it and succeeded.

then they should

anticipate that, and not do it, and have some sort of play/rhythm where they get a good quality shot without having to go cross ice, if the pk is leaning that way, something else has to be open.

i’m surprised isle’s pk is not pursuing us, which is very effective against us, since we can’t handle the pressure from the pk’er and usually flub it or it gets cleared when we’re rushed.

by devils82 on Mar 13, 2010 7:40 PM EST reply actions

this is what frustrates me

about zajac, the guy gets a good rush, and then always tries to pass it, just wind up and take your shot, what’s wrong with you? is he just so soft in his temperment?

he frustrates me like no other sometimes, and i’m sure lemaire is pissed, he wants zajac to take shots, not half assed passes at the blue line after you’ve got good speed into the zone.

by bdevil89 on Mar 13, 2010 7:40 PM EST reply actions

no

take it in,

he had it on his forehand, i’ve seen a ton of other team’s players do it, what’s wrong with him?

he’s got a great shot, let it unload, and if it’s blocked then blocking player is going to pay for it,

bottomline, put pucks on the net esp if you’re coming in with speed and the D has backed off,

by bdevil89 on Mar 13, 2010 7:44 PM EST up reply actions

What’s wrong? Look, the idea to pass wasn’t poor, Zajac had two defenders in front of him (and a man at his side), and decided to move it away. Fine. It was just the execution that was poor.

Two bad penalties (the Parise hook was defensible), burnt on one, and the Isles are just flying out there.

The Devils need to absolutely sharpen up their passing game and their clearances because the Isles keep picking them up with ease.

Also, everyone, the game’s not over and last I checked, the Devils beat this team the last time they came to Nassau. Let’s not start giving up on the game because the second was poor.

Well, you can if you want, but I won’t join you.

by devilstuckinkansas on Mar 13, 2010 8:31 PM EST reply actions

And that leads back to my major point. The Devils keep forcing passes or just making awful ones so they can’t get into positions to where they can put pucks on net.

btw

yann denis looks to small for the net esp for the nhl,

we need a new backup a la Clemmensen – at least size wise

yeah

i’ve been saying the power play has been terrible for a long time, but some people are like don’t worry about, we’ll be fine, well this is not going to cut it for the playoffs

Can we find another spot for Kovy on the PP

Besides the point?

I have respect for most sports fans with 2 exceptions: NY Ranger fans who grew up in New Jersey, and Dallas Cowboy fans who can't name the capital of Texas.

this power play

Is going to get us nowhere. Literally. Its god awful. In a playoff series we will get owned

the problem

with that stat is, we don’t have a high goals for either, and it can be skewed to look like we’re great defensively, when in actuality we’re not that good

the guy

is slow, he doesn’t make good passes, and his shot has been non-existant for quite some time, he doesn’t even hit as well anymore, he’s a checking winger at best at this stage of his career, there you go

yeah that's

great in the beginning of the season, but doesn’t sustain that through the season and his quality of play has decreased, and he’s slow and telegraphs passes even strength and on the power play.

i remember when kovy was traded – he kept trying to force every pass to him, to me it showed he lost confidence in his game

by bdevil89 on Mar 13, 2010 9:21 PM EST reply actions

Langenbrunner has 2 goals and 9 assists since Kovalchuk arrived to NJ.

how much was he money wise he might have been a great back up goalie

by Imperator_Celtic on Mar 13, 2010 9:29 PM EST up reply actions

The second period was poor and the comeback was botched on a powerplay. You can’t say the Devils fell totally flat; but they should have done much better overall – in those cases perhaps they don’t give up the chances that led to the goals.

That said, no Devils fan should be really happy about this if only because now one has to wonder, was tonight just a letdown of a game where the Devils didn’t get the breaks – or were the last two wins aberrations after all?

Monday and Wednesday’s games just got more important.

were

Inconsistent. That is the only thing that can be used to describe our team right now.

by Drew95.00.03 on Mar 13, 2010 9:28 PM EST via mobile reply actions

“…and the comeback was botched on a powerplay…” the “funny” thing is when you read that without watching the game you would think it came on and Islanders powerplay… But NO, the Devils decided the only thing that they could do on a 4 minute powerplay was allow a short handed goal…

by devils82 on Mar 13, 2010 9:29 PM EST reply actions

Seriously

Seriously Seriously Seriously……… This is disgusting!!! Yeah Roloson was good tonight but i am totally feed up with this teams PP. We SUCK on the PP. Now everyone say it “WE SUCK ON THE PP”. Now that that is out of our system lets learn how to score on the PP and not how to let the other team score on the PP. Pathetic is all I can say. Yeah blah blah blah im being negative but I am always trying to be positive and this is really getting under my skin. The goalie doesn’t matter but our D does and it isn’t all that great. Another thing is we need to learn how to not dump the puck or throw long passes. That is so rediculous. It doesn’t work Lemaire so stop trying to dump and throw impossible passes.

Anyway im not a coach but a really pisssed off fan.

funny thing

Is that not once did I think we were going to score on any of our power plays. Its pathetic. We need an entire period of 5 on 4 aparently to even have a chance of scoring.
