Advice (your thoughts) on a Clarkson jersey

OK, so one of my favorite Devils is David Clarkson. To me he is an all around player. Well, maybe not all-around because that sounds like he is skills-based. Maybe he's more of an "everything" player. He doesn't have great skills, (not yet) but he's got good enough skills. He's not a giant, but he's not small. He plays offense, defense, fights, and can spark the Devils at any time. He's certainly not a goon, but is definitely a warrior.

A few months back I posted asking for info on where to buy Devils jerseys (and thank you for your help—my friend bought from one of the sites you suggested). At the time I couldn't afford $170 for one of those jerseys with name sewn on, so I ended up buying an Elias jersey from someone on Craigslist for $40. Yeah it's a knock-off, but to me it's great and it's actually a decent quality knock off. (the guy emails me from time to time and still sells on Craigs and ebay, but only Elias jerseys in size 52XL- if interested I can give you his email or direct you to the sites he's selling on) ... But since buying that jersey I have been saving a few bucks here and there to some day get the real thing and guess who's jersey I would like. Clarkie of course.

My only hesitation is that if I buy a Clarkson jersey, I would hate for him to not re-sign with the Devils. According to capgeek, for 2010/2011 Clarkie will be a restricted free agent (RFA).

I don't see the Devils passing on him or using him in a trade, but you never know what Lou's master plan can be. Should I jump in now and get the jersey (or rather once I've scraped up the cash) or should I wait for him to be re-signed in the off-season?   (yeah I know, a whole post dedicated to one of our third liners, but I think he is worthy of this post)

Poll
To make responses easier, i am including a poll asking... Is buying a Clarkson jersey premature since his contract is up next year and he will be a RFA at the end of this season?
Buy a Clarkson jersey you fool. Lou would be crazy to let this guy go.

Wait to see how he plays in the remainder of the season and playoffs.

Wait until he is re-signed. Never telling what Lou's master plan is.

you never know...

…but I highly doubt Clarkie will leave. He’s on record saying he wants to stay – end his career, even – as a Devil, as a pending FA he won’t be packaged in a draft-day trade, and as much as we love him in NJ I doubt any other team would be willing to give Clarkson a Godfather-type offer (that Lou isn’t willing to match) AND give up a draft pick in the process.

I’d say it’s safe to shell out for a Clarkson uni.

You will almost always lose trying to figure out who will be here long term. My advice is to get the one that makes you happy. Personally I never put a player name on either of mine, although I do have 22 in honor of Pepe, but no name. Unless you get a Marty Jersey, or maybe Parise, chances are they will be ex-devils at some point.

Clarkson has a great mix of toughness, grit, scoring touch, and DESIRE, that is obvious when he plays, and is a great choice. Hope he is here a long time.

You should wait, (my thoughts)

$170 is a lot of money and I would hate to see you waste the money if the devils do not resign. I mean Clarkson is a great hockey player and as far as I am concerned he will most likely stay, but the hockey world is certainly a crazy one. I have got bitten buying multiple jerseys were the player doesn’t stick around but then again I do not regret buying them one bit.

I think waiting won’t hurt. I can’t imagine him not re-signing here but the end of the season is only a few months away so it would probably be better to just wait.

Great choice: I was going to get a Clarkson jersey myself and go with the green and red old jersey style, but I have to admit I’m not the biggest fan of the CCM jersey. I think you’ll be safe picking up a Clarkson jersey now. I doubt he’s going anywhere and with the injury he had for a majority of the season, his value has decreased on the free agent market. I would say just get it now, and be different and go with the white away jersey. I personally have been debating with Clarkson and Zajac and think I’m going to go with Zajac.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the feed back and voting. I think I will take the plunge and get the jersey sooner rather than waiting until the off season. I mean, who wants to think about the off season anyway.

...and it's 6 - 3, New Jersey!!!
