Rich Chere breaks down potential first round opponents for the New Jersey Devils
With 88 points and 11 games left to play, the playoffs are all but a sure thing. Rich Chere asks whether there's an ideal opponent for the first round.
Based on season series record, Boston and Ottawa would be good choices. Montreal would be interesting as Martin Brodeur has always been excellent against Les Habs. But that's just my thoughts.
I made a poll on the front page asking you this very question. Read Chere's article and then go and vote.

I know we usually play well against the Habs but I think they are the best team in the bottom 4. I would be fine getting either Ottawa or Boston. I know we don’t have a good record against Philly but they are down to there 3rd goalie and I don’t think they are that big of a threat.
Obviously we can beat or lose to anyone of these teams so it really doesn’t matter that much. Getting the 2nd seed would be great though because we would have home ice advantage longer.
the bruins would be the best choice in my opinion

tough no matter which team
I feel it’s going to be a struggle no matter who Devils play, because they can not get there act in gear. I’m hoping this week they can really turn it around and get some momentum going into the playoffs. If they can pick up a momentum swing now that they have everyone healthy for the most part. Momentum is a big plus! With 11 games to go before the playoffs we could be one of the teams to be reckoned with. I really feel like the Devils talent is well rounded for a good playoff run. They have to work hard as a team and efficiency is the key for every line. A push from the defense could help the offense and protect Marty. If they can get the power play going for the last stretch that would be sweet!! I’m more hopeful and more confidant then the past two playoff runs.
