Lowell Devils Playoff Thread

The Lowell Devils are in the AHL playoffs right now as the 7th seed. I thought I would make a post and update everyone on how they are doing.

The Devils are matched up with the number 2 seed Worcester Sharks in the first round. The Devils went 5-4-1 against the Sharks in the regular season.

Game 1:

Lowell took game 1 in Worcester by the score of 3-2. Alexander Vasyunov led the Devils with 1 goal and 2 assists and Mike McKenna made 34 saves.

Game 4:

Lowell took a 2-1 lead into the 3rd but couldn't hold on to the lead losing 4-2. They were out shot by Worcester 41-27. Vasyunov and Davis were the goal scores for Lowell.

Game 5:

Lowell fell 0-2 again in the 1st period but was able to get one back early in the 2nd. A SH goal by Worcester midway in the 2nd killed any of the Devils momentum though. Lowell ended up losing 5-1 thus ending a pretty impressive season. Mike McKenna seemed to struggle only letting in 5 goals on 30 shots.

Final Thoughts:

I was unable to watch any of the games, mostly because it cost $10 to watch a below average feed online, but I did listen to a lot of the games and would like to share some thoughts.

The best players for Lowell were without a doubt Nick Palmieri and Alexander Vasyunov. Vasyunov finished with 2 goals and 2 assists, Palmieri finished with 1 goal and 3 assists. These two were line mates throughout the series  and were centered by Brad Mills (1 goal 2 assists) in the first 2 games and David McIntrye (1 goal 1 assist) in the last 3 games. Mills was injured in game 2.

Other impressive Devils were Patrick Davis (2 goals) and Matt Taormina (1 goal 3 assists).

Unimpressive Devils would have to be Tyler Eckford (1 goal), Micheal Swift (1 assist) Tim Sestito (0 points) and Cory Murphy (0 points!). Swift led Lowell in goals this year but failed to score in 4 games in the playoffs. Sestito and Eckford each got time in New Jersey because of their impressive play but failed to impress in the post season.  Murphy was the 2nd highest point getter among the Lowell defense put failed to get a single point in the playoffs. To think he actually started the year in New Jersey.

You may notice I have yet to mention Matt Halischuk. Well he only played in the first game do to injury. It must really have been a tough year for Halischuk. He started the year off in New Jersey gets sent down to Lowell then misses most of the season in Lowell do to injury. Hopefully he will bounce back next season.

Overall the Devils played well in this series considering they were missing key players like Zharkov, Corrente, and Halischuk. I think the future is bright for the Lowell (or Albany) Devils even if they end up losing a few players to the big club or their head coach.
