Previews: I wrote this preview for tonight's game. For a Carolina perspective, here is the preview at Canes Country.
Additional Information: It's not clear, but Tom Gulitti reported this morning that Dainius Zubrus should be healthy enough to play tonight and Mark Fraser will be in the lineup. No word yet as to who is out on defense.
Scoreboard Watching: Pittsburgh won in OT to beat Atlanta 4-3; so the Devils will need two points tonight to keep pace in the division. As for the conference; Buffalo visits the Montreal Canadiens tonight.
A Song to Pump You Up: Suicidal Tendencies: "Suicidal Maniac" - Crossover thrash from 1987, makes you hope the Devils will smash Carolina in 2010. Well, it does for me at least.

Pando is in and Sharky is out as well. Also, we might see 7 defensemen dress unless there is another change. For a team that has struggled scoring goals, I don’t like seeing this potential lineup.

7 defensemen might happen, Carolina doesn’t have an enforcer and putting PL3 or Peters in anyways is just going to be useless. I’d rather have a short bench with the extra defenseman than the enforcer who can’t really enforce

Agree that putting in a enforcer would be useless, so why not play Zharkov? At least he can be a presence in the offensive zone, unlike PL3, Peters or a defensemen (which Lemaire did on the 4th line one game with Corrente). Also, playing a short bench on the 2nd half of a back to back? Who’s going to double shift (surely not Pando or Fraser)?

Jay Pandolfo will also play while rookie winger Vladimir Zharkov comes out.
I’m guessing Pelley or McAmmond comes in. Sucks because Zharkov was really good with Kovy and Elias

Was Zharkov really that good? Yes, he help set up the play for Kovalchuk’s goal; but he also managed to miss the net 5 times on 5 shot attempts.
I don’t have an issue with Pandolfo getting some time because his experience and defensive style may be needed in the postseason. I’m honestly baffled as to resting Langenbrunner, though.

I’m not initially confident looking at this group. As much as I like him on the wing, I’d almost rather have the second line be Kovalchuk-Elias-Rolstnn and Zubrus up on the first line.

I’m not too worried. Aside from a 3 game stretch 4, 5, and 6 games ago with 2G-2A, Jamie has been 0-0-0 -4 in 9 of the last 12 games. He hasn’t added much to the little the Devils have done lately anyway. I understand he’s having a career year, assists-wise, but someone whose best season is 42 assists when he plays on a line with 2 linemates with 58 goals between them doesn’t impress me much offensively.

That’s true about Jamie’s recent form; but the guy only picked up 40 assists with ZZ Pops all last season; he’s got 42 despite being shifted around a bit.
Perhaps a “rest” will “spark” him in the last few games?

Im just frustrated man...
our offense…which is really talented, has been anemic lately…sure we’re getting shots on goal…but 3 goals in 4 games is just bad..Brodeur is peaking right now..he looks amazing, we need to back him up with some support.
Good set up for Parise, but Ward closed the 5 hole. The Devils are getting a few good shifts here and there to start. Not bad.

I just got back from JFK airport. There was a little kid about seven years old wearing a Rags jersey, acting like a jerk. He kept pushing his sister and screaming. Then he turned around and I saw he was wearing an Avery Jersey. Just what we need, the spawn of Sean.

Got a free preview cuz I ordered the MLB Extra Innings…..and im watching the Bruins game…NOTHING is broadcasted in HD thru cablevision…and the picture looks pretty bad….is the SD picture this bad normally for NESN, or other regional networks….or just this bad on HDTVs…just a question if anyone has any insight

Do you think the devils will be able to keep Kovalchuk and Martin? I think it’s more important to get Kovalchuk because the Devils have never had a lethal offense and he could bring that. Also after trading Oduya we need to have at least 1 more offensive defensemen, and that could be Martin.
If someone’s willing to take a pay cut, if both want to say, if both aren’t getting good offers elsewhere (and Martin’s going to be REAL popular this summer), and if the moons are in alignment…then maybe.

Buccigross (and obviously take his comments with a grain of salt) recently commented in his mailbag that martin’s cap number will probably be 4.3-4.5 mil (he guessed at a 30 million-7 year contract)
If that’s the case, then it’s very possible.
But Martin’s going to get PAID this summer. There are very, very, very few UFA defensemen who can play 23+ minutes without blinking regularly on the market.

Game Over Devils win!!!
Great overall effort by the Devils in a game against our nemisis the Hurricanes. Outstanding defense we scored some goals and Marty played a great back to back game. Also we are starting to win some road games now. Langy and Martin got some rest also. I believe we will play well against Atlanta and Kovy will have a big game going back home. Now we just need Pittsburgh to lose a couple of games.

I really liked the way the top two lines all played tonight and I wonder where Langs will come back in. I really hate breaking up ZZZ… they’ve always played great together and Kovy, Elias, and Clarkson seemed to have some pretty good chemistry as well.
