Join me and Fischer in the comments.  Da' Rules:  Tangents are acceptable and talking about the Thrashers or the Devils in general is OK, discussing indie pop is not.  Keep it clean and relevant at all times.  Above all, go Devils! Now get in the ground.

Number of the Beast

Should be the song to get us pumped up before every Devils game…at least in my opinion!

Probably a good time to mention I really prefer the original Hell’s Bells as the intro music rather than the techno version they introduced this year.

Obscure Channel Help

Just in case anyone is wondering, Cablevision has the Devils game on channel 66, which is C-Span2.

While I like the fact the Devils game is on channel 66 (Channel 666 would’ve been creepy), I gotta say it feels like a bit of a knock that I had to search so hard and find the game on a channel that usually covers Congress. I hate basketball…and the Rangers… As for the Islanders fans, I welcome them into our fold once the team moves to Canada.

by SlimJims on Apr 6, 2010 6:54 PM EDT reply actions

Well, the MSG family has the Knicks, Rangers, and Islanders also playing on the same night. Someone’s getting the short end of the stick. Sometimes it’s the Islanders, sometimes it’s the Devils. It happens.

Bergfors and Oduya miss New Jersey? Speaking as someone who lives in New Jersey, who the hell misses New Jersey? Is Chico sure that they just don’t miss being on a team that is going to make the playoffs? Because that’s far more likely than anyone missing New Jersey.

I’m just sick of living in the Soprano State. What does it say about the place you live when you’re happy with a governor that isn’t running the state bank account into the ground or getting caught promising state jobs to someone in return for sexual favors?

Big Z with a perfect pass across the crease and McAmmond was perfectly placed! Nothing Hedberg could do, not much the defense could have done, and it’s a big goal.

First period over

The Thrashers had the better start, the better end, and weren’t too bad. But they couldn’t get the great chance at scoring. The Devils did as McAmmond is why they are up 1-0.

I think NJ is doing an OK job passing, but I think they need to be a bit smarter in the offensive zone. Getting in hasn’t been an issue, just moving it while in there. Defensively, the Devils have had good stoppages but the Thrashers are more active in getting players set up, keeping possession, and being able to set up those cross-ice passes that they haven’t hit on yet. Brodeur’s been fine – but defense, help him out a bit before Atlanta is able to get that one chance they need to equalize.

I like how Leblond, McAmmond, and Zubrus has looked. They aren’t on the same line, but they’ve stood out – and guess what, they set up the one goal the Devils have.

NHL 10 best

I just watched the 10 best saves and the 10 best goals on NHL.com. Once again the Devils get no respect. Marty has made some awesome saves this year but he was not in there once. The goal that Zach had against the Blue Jackets was not in there either. It was one of the sickest goals I ever saw him make, quick turn around and the lift over the right shoulder of Mason. No respect.

Bergfors had a scoring chance…which he fired over the net right in front.

Atlanta’s rising a bit to the occassion. I think the Devils need to be wary of the giveaways; Zubrus just turned it over leaving an open shot for Antropov. An easy stop because it was long and Brodeur saw it completely, but unnecessary.

Atlanta with a two on one – Afinogenov and Bergfors; Afinogenov was thrown off by Greene hustling back and his pass is totally mishandled by Bergfors!

Martin hustled back to close on Afinogenov – not Martin.

Zubrus was coming back too and maybe that threw Afinogenov off too.

Devils respond with an excellent chance. Elias fires a puck, it lays open in front after the save, but Tobias Enstrom holds off Langenbrunner (I think?) for the easy tap-in.

Ideal finish, one team ends up in 8th, the other on the outside. The 8th place team is a little beat up with nagging injuries and they’re gone in the first round.

Second Period Ends

The Devils came out well, scored a second goal, but then Atlanta started showing some fight in them. I felt the two teams traded off chances. The Devils could improve in their passing a bit to reduce the amount of “help” they’ve given Atlanta. I do think they improved on their attack.

I like how the fourth line looks. I’m surprised how Kovalchuk has played. The hustle, vision, and effort are there; but his timing and decisions are just off. I guess pressure from playing in Atlanta for the first time? Truth be told, Langenbrunner hasn’t looked too hot either. Patrik Elias at least looks solid out there, had a couple good shots and solid passes (still bad on faceoffs, 5 for 13 already).
