2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs Chat Thread for 5/1
Later today: A WOWY for Ilya Kovalchuk's time as a New Jersey Devil. Feel free to guess how many forwards he had 100+ Corsi events with before I post it all up. Unrelated second question: Guess how many times Dan Carcillo will dive or embellish in today's Game 1 against Boston and win an Official No-Prize™!
Talk about today's games here. We got two today:
12:30 PM EDT - NBC, TSN - Philadelphia @ Boston
8:00 PM EDT - VERSUS, CBC - Vancouver @ Chicago

Is that your answer for the first or second question?

Hoping for Chicago to win. Like to see Kane and Toews get a cup. Along with Mad Dog.

Did the Devils ever score 2 goals in one game in the whole series?

Game 2 and Game 3.
Come on, man, it was two weeks ago – not that far back.

O yeah
I forgot about that game… Seems the Devils did too the rest of the series

I’d just like to out:
1st period: 0 penalties called – Boston scores 2 goals
2nd period: 7 penalties called – Flyers outscore Boston 2-1
3rd period: 5 penalties called – Flyers outscore Boston 2-1
OT- 0 penalties called – Boston dominates and gets game winner
Cause and effect? Decidedly not… too many other factors… but worth noting.

i didnt watch till the overtime i have no idea how those 2 teams scored 8 goals in regulation i thought it would be 1-0

Missed the game
But those stats look interesting. If I had to go strictly on this summary I would be inclined to think what a difference a referee makes.

why?
were there different referees in the first and OT than there were in the 2nd and 3rd?
Go Jets
Go Devils
I think he meant just within a game. When no penalties were being called, Boston was carrying the play, when they were, the Flyers seemed to have the advantage.
I’ve made a previous assertion that I thought the tightly called series with the Devils benefited the Flyers, as they’re more accustomed, if not built, to play in a game with lots of special teams.

Yeah FrankG929
I had planned to watch the game, not only to see who would win and dominate; but also to see how penalties would influence each team’s style of play. I am still feeling some kind of way about the referee calling in the Devils/Flyers series. Looking at the summary in elesias’s comment above, I think that his assertion regarding the probability of penalties favoring the Flyers style of play (comment was in a previous post) is more likely to be valid than not. I don’t know if this game is officiated by the same group who officiated the Devils /Flyers series, but the fact that the Flyer’s play better durings periods, when a large number of penalties are called, is obviously apparent; regardless of which team the penalty is called against.

Meanwhile in the West
It’s bad, real bad.
Unless you’re a Vancouver supporter. Than it’s good, real good. 5-0 and it’s not even the end of the second. Brent Sopel has been awful. Antti Niemi has given up huge rebounds. And Chicago has looked out of sorts. It’s not even coaching, it’s just lapses by the players.

We thought the same thing about Montreal.
