Who the Devils will draft with their 1st pick
So it's looking like 38th overall, huh? Would it be a stretch to say that that pick is going to be a goaltender?
There is no doubt that Jeff Frazee is the only goaltender within the Devils's system of any merit. But there are doubts that he can take over Marty's job. So that leaves us with this draft. If there is a forward/ defenseman gem in the rough, I think Lou will jump on the chance and wait to select a goalie until their 2nd pick. But it seems logic says that the 1st or 2nd pick, is going to be a goalie . . . even though it doesn't appear to be a strong class.
Looks like Calvin Pickard will be snatched up by that time, but could you see Lou trading up for him? His favorite team is the Devils . . .
If not, there are chances that Jack Campbell will be available or maybe a top European prospect?
Irony is that Frazee was also the 38th pick.

Benjiman Conz.
Impressed during World Juniors. Shaky at times, but could reach potential as high as the sky.

I would have to say Conz too...
I mean the Devils will have atleast one of those goalies in the draft. I would love to see Pickard since he is a Devils fan but Conz wouldn’t be terrible. He was standing on his head in the IIHF with a bad team in front of him and still had them in the game. Campbell would be nice but he seems to be the popular pick and I think he’ll go before Pickard and Conz which means it would come down to those too. Which I would love to see.

Yes, we have Atlanta's pick
which is probably in the early 2nd.

This is true, but what they should do and what they will do are two different things.
Normally this philosophy makes sense, i.e. drafting Marty in 1990 even with five or six goalies already in the system, but it “should” work the opposite way, as in the case now when we literally have one goaltending prospect. Neither McKenna nor Coleman are going to be in the NHL anytime soon, so other than re-signing Danis, Frazee is all we have. The Devils would be smart to at least have one other option to begin training.

I’d be surprised if the Devils didn’t draft a goalie in 2010. I’d be surprised if they use their first pick on one, though.
Goaltenders are really hit-or-miss, if my memory serves, but I got to actually look to confirm that.
