Devil's Lines Next Year?
I was recently pondering about our lines, after the signings of Mattias Tedenby and Jacob Josefson.
Parise-Zajac-Langenbrunner
Tedenby-Josefson-Elias
Rolston-Henrique-Clarkson
Pelly-Mccamond-Zubrus
Martin-Hamhuis
Salvador-Greene
White-Fraser
Brodeur
Danis
I realize this team is young, but I also realize that it is fresher, younger, and more hungrier than ever. If having these lines means that we may not get home ice advantage in the playoffs, I am fine with that, because it hasn't been so effective to us in the past. As proclaimed day in day out, "Once you've in the Dance, Anything Can Happen."
We already know what the likes of ZZPops can do, so no need to explain my reasoning for that line.
The second line will be in much question from most of you. Lou has already stated he has a pretty good gut feeling that Tedenby and Josefson will be regulars on this team. Giving them second line duties is a whole load of responsibilities. But they do it with Elias, a leader who can groom the young swedes. And if it doesn't work out, we could just put Zubrus, Tedenby, and Elias on the second line, and put Josefson on fourth line or Minors.
The third line is very familiar from last year, but a new face will be added, and that is Adam Henrique. I know yet again, you will question me. I know that most of his amazing numbers came last year with the playing on the same line as future superstar, Taylor Hall. But from watching this kid, he is a very smart player, and good in both ends of the ice. He is also an above average playmaker and can hand Rolston a few goals.
The fourth line will be our energy line with Leblond and Pelly. But you add a guy like Zubrus. This line can be capable of going against another team's top line as Zubrus will dig and dig to get the puck to his linemates, and out of the zone.
Brodeur is obviously a given in net. But recently, Danis expressed his interest to stay with the Devils, while speaking with Rich Chere of NJ.com.

1 maybe an outside shot at 2 of the kids you mention will make this team.
Why would we want to keep Mcammond around? I would rather see the youth on the Fourth line so they get limited time to work themsleves in and earn promotions..
Explain Reasoning
I see that many of you feel I have no idea what I am talking about.
Please elaborate.

At least it can all fit under the cap
And allow the Devils plenty of space going forward. But…
Josefson as the #2 center next season?
Henrique as the #3 center at all, much less next season?
Zubrus on the fourth line?

I think it is highly inappropriate to project lines with players who are not under the team’s control for next season (players on other team’s rosters, and pending UFAs). If Lou Lamorello came out and produced that blueprint, the Devils would be guilty of tampering.
Until we have a better idea of what the team will look like for the upcoming season, projecting a lineup and potential line combinations and defense partners is not practical. We can guess that there will be some roster changes through free agency, whether it is players departing or players being brought in from outside. There’s no way to project which players that will involve, however — there are thirty teams out there with their own ideas and values, and just because you want a player (e.g. Hamhuis) doesn’t mean you can have him.
I also believe Lamorello is going to swing some sort of significant deal in the off-season to shuffle some pieces. There isn’t a lot out there on the free agent market, and I imagine some players won’t want to come to Jersey, and others will get more lucrative offers elsewhere given the lack of quality and the issues of supply and demand. I’m not saying it is going to be a blockbuster for a franchise player, but I could see a couple of players who are under NJ control shipped out for other pieces. Lou has done it before (think Sykora/Friesen), and I think this might be the time to try it again since the current roster hasn’t had much postseason success in repeated tries.
Waaaaay too premature
Draft day trades have a good chance of shuffling things around, plus there’s this thing called free agency that kicks in on July 1.
I would answer pepe22’s question about McAmmond with another question: Would you rather keep Niedermayer? One of the two will likely be back at their prices.
Go Jets
Go Devils
I didn't take this seriously to begin with, BUT
let’s start with the goaltending. Maybe it’s Price, maybe not, but we need a legitimate backup. Marty CANNOT play 75 games, he needs time off, it’s that simple. Tedenby might make the team, Josefson and Henrique probably won’t.
Yankees in baseball, Giants in football and Devils in hockey. It's that simple. I have no off-season.
What about Hallischuck, Zharkov, Palmieri, or Davis. They all played very well when called upon with the Devils this year. They’ve all done there time in the minors. they need to play on the big team. Vasyonov (I’m not sure I spelled his name right) had a good year too.
those kids are all wingers
We got wingers out the wazoo. Yeah, they played well when called upon, no doubt, but we really don’t need anymore wingers. I do expect Zharkov back before Tedenby gets the call up, the others will get their call-ups throughout the season, but realistically the guys from Lowell we should be focusing on are Centers: Walter, Mills, Sestito, and I would love to see Henrique get some time in the Show.

Everybody looks good with Zajac and Parise. PETERS looks good with Zajac and Parise. Okay, maybe not.

Actually…Peters DID look good in the very (very, very, very) few times they crossed paths on this ice with Parise. Not so much with Zajac.
The links to the team charts in both posts reveal all.

Price would be a nice fit. At least he’s played a fair bit allready in the league & he’s young with tons of potential. They probably wouldn’t be so reluctant to play him a little more too. With a good solid defensive team like the Devils he wouldn’t have any trouble getting his confidents back either. Plus he’s a pretty good stick handler. Like Marty(:
On defence, sure I would love to see Hamhuis in a Devils uniform this year but I think it’s a long shot. Everybody is going to be throwing lots of money at him. I think the Devils need to play Fraser, Corrente, & Eckford more this year. They need the plaing time. They’ve played enough in the minors. That’s why I think they shoudn’t resign Mottoau.
You guys may hate me for this..
I’d rather keep Mottau and get rid of Salvador but thats my thoughts. As far as the lineup you suggest it lacks one huge ingredient leadership aside from Parise and Brodeur. And if we don’t keep Martin we should at least keep Kovalchuk otherwise we lost 2 Guys who would be shoe ins for roster spots in Bergfors and Oduya for nothing.
Salvador is alot more physical & doesn’t get pushed around as much. He also makes alot less mistakes. I don’t know how many times I saw Mottau cough the puck up or put his stick infront of the puck & tip it into his own net. He’s too passive.
With Martin, Greene, Salmella, & Eckford. You have some really mobile defencemen.
With White, Salvador, Fraser, &Corrente, You have some really big mean defencemen. You won’t be getting pushed around in your own end with those dudes.
As for leadership, your forgetting about Langenbrunner, Elias,& Rolston.
I think Lou will sign Martin just before July 1st. I don’t want them to even try to keep Kovalchuck. He just doesn’t get it. He’s played too long on teams where it’s all about him. He makes too many stupid high risk mistakes.
I also think that Carbaneau would be my first pick for coach. My second pick would be Mactavish. Both were really good team guys & good on the faceoff & on special teams. Carbaneau I think would help Langenbrunner with leadership because they played together & get along & bridge the so called rift that he was rumoured to have with the two previous coach’s.
Yes..
Kovalchuk made some big mistakes in the games he played. However lets not forget that it seemed aside from Elais and Parise who always play their ass off he was our best forward. It was as though the Devils mindset changed once Kovy came here in essence saying we got a world class athlete lets let him do it all. Another key thing we lose if Kovalchuk goes is a playoff scorer he led the team in points and set up Rolston’s 2 pp goals of that series.
