Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

CapGeek has been informed that 2009 second round draft pick Eric Gelinas has been signed to a 3 year Entry Level Deal. It's a two-way deal, with a NHL cap hit of $690k should he make it to New Jersey.

Gelinas finished his season with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in the QMJHL.

UPDATE: Thanks to LangsForPres in the comments, the official website reports that the Devils signed overage Kitchener Rangers defenseman Dan Kelly as well.

No word yet from CapGeek on the contract, but I would think Kelly will ply his trade in the minors first since he can't go back to the OHL.

Didn’t know much about him so I checked him up on hockeysfuture.com

Here’s his page, and a nice article about him here written June of last year.

He’s 6’3", but only 190lbs (probably a little more now). He’s physical and has some good offensive ability (skating with the puck and moving up ice). He’s also a learner, which is also good.

Posted too quickly.

I know it’s not huge for a hockey player, but he’s my size and I’ve never had anyone ever suggest to me that I should be bigger :P

He’s like the same size as Zajac. They list Zajac as 200lbs. but I feel like thats stretching it a little. Not every guy is built like Kovalchuk.

If Andrew Peters ever plays again it will be too soon.

Player weight is subjective. Take Alexander Urbom for example. Some have him listed at 196. Others at 220. I don’t know how it can fluctuate so much. What is it? Is he 196 or 220? I just don’t understand it.

He is a long term project. However, as you have said he is willing to learn. How does an entry level contract work? Does he get paid the full amount of the contract to play in junior or does he get one salary for junior and one for playing in the AHL/NHL?

Dan Kelly

Per the Devs website, they also signed free-agent Dan Kelly from Kitchener. I know exactly nothing about this guy besides what the article says, but he sounds promising, and Kitchener has produced serious talent. So here’s to hoping.

I like the Kelly signing....

27 points last year does seem promising and he is a captain on a good Kitchener team. Its a good start to the offseason starting with Tedenby and Josefson and ending with Gelinas and Kelly.
