Ilya Kovalchuk will make his decision today (for sure, this time!).
According to Jay Grossman, Kovy will FINALLY make up his mind. If any news breaks, please link to someone credible like Gulitti, Chere, Helen Elliot/Rich Hammond, Grossman, TSN Insiders, Lebrun or even Dmitry Chesnokov from Puck Daddy, Not Hockeybuzz. WE MEAN IT!

Is there really any doubt what the mysterious decision will be?
Hopefully this will be the domino effect many seem to think it is and we’ll finally have something to talk about other than Kovalchuk.
Man the summer is boring for sports!
DON'T PANIC.
Went to Wildwood for 4 days and thought something will happen
Man was I wrong again.

It’s either him signing somewhere, or his choice of where to go for Dinner…

Just a quick little poll
What are your odds he signs with a specific team?
for example,
Kings; 50%
Devils: 25%
Some other NHL team; 10%
KHL; 15%
you’re being a bit generous with 98%…
by Marty'sBetter30 on Jul 19, 2010 11:41 AM EDT up reply actions
Agreed. Seems pretty certain he’ll be playing with the Kings next year. If he wanted to stick with the devils, I’d imagine he would have made that decision in the beginning of free agency. To be quite honest, the guy is a star and a stud but I believe it makes less sense at this point fiscally and otherwise to keep him.

Y’know, it ruins the joke when you get serious about it :P
John, you run a good site, but you need some work on your straight man bit ;)
DON'T PANIC.
Case in point as to why I’m not a gambling man. I’ve been within within easy driving distance of either AC or Vegas for most of my life, and never been to either.
DON'T PANIC.
that’s ok – I would’ve taken the over, too. This is almost as shocking as when he was traded in the first place…
Agreed, although I don’t have the same sense of elation I did when the initial trade was made.
This is more of a gnawing nervousness.
DON'T PANIC.
Im in Shanghai, China right now. Its currently midnight. I have 2 exams tmrw. I cant think about anything other than this signing and our roster next year. Im shocked

wonderful...
at least we get to enjoy parise’s services for one more year.
We can re-sign him don’t worry. If Lou can pull this off he can pull a Parise signing.

I wonder...
Could we maybe trade him to LA for that offensive Dman we need?
I’ll miss Salvadore and Zubie.
Echem, ’scuse me Mr. Eckford. . Glad you signed that contract. Seems as though we have a spot on the blueline for you.
I wouldnt say it was for kovy per se but he definitely knew this team may be in a bit of a cap-crunch so signing minimum would give him one leg up over the other defenseman in the organization trying to make the team
by Marty'sBetter30 on Jul 19, 2010 12:16 PM EDT up reply actions
not yet. Salvadore and Zubie are the odds on favs because they aren’t stuck on with clauses and have meaningful salaries. And there are prospects who may or may not be ready to fill the spots.
If Lou manages to unload Rolston, a pink unicorn will deliver him to his new city. It’s a hard contract to move, and requires Rolo to say “yes.”
if Lou can shed Rolston, we can officially call him “GOD”

we won’t know till a deal is done. My guess is Salvadore is priority #1, then Zubrus. Althought, I’d like to see Zubrus stay if possible

All this hemming and haw-ing has stirred up a lot of anti-Kovalchuk sentiment from hockey fans. He’s going to have something to big prove going forward, and I sure hope he plays like it.
let’s hope he can build some chemistry. He’s got a lot of comfort playing with Volchenkov (Russian), Hedberg (Atlanta) and the rest of the team from last year. I have a solid feeling.
