Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Poll: What do you think of Uncle Floyd and the Devils?

Now that I have your attention, the ILWT community's opinions have always been invaluable to me for Devils' stuff more than any other source, twitter, facebook, etc.

This is just speculation on my part, and I can provide no links on it, but if Uncle Floyd were to be involved with the Devils next year, would that get you excited or waxing nostalgic?

If he was a guest on NJDTV, or made some appearances at some of the Newark bars before games, or even played at games, would that be cool to you?

I have a poll below.  But I can say your feedback will greatly valued.  If this is off topic, I apologize . . . maybe I'm just mad that Parise didn't answer my question.

Here is an old video you can see of the terribly produced, but much loved show filmed in North Jersey from the 1970s - 1990s.

David Bowie even wrote a song about him after John Lennon - (who used to watch it on UHF) told him about the show.

When I think of New Jersey, I think of Uncle Floyd.  Those of you under the age of 30 especially, please let your voices be heard!

Who's Uncle Floyd?

Mathew Barnaby to Lyle Odelein: "Cornelius, as we like to call him, gets under your skin. Planet of the Apes. Look at him. Seriously. He looks like Cornelious."

Odelein to Barnaby: "He should take a look at his wife. She's God-awful to look at."

Bon Jovi and the Ramones played his show

I was very young when I saw it, and I’m in my early 30s. It was on local access cable TV, NJN (for a couple years) and UHF stations. So only if you were in the North Jersey area, could you get it.

I have respect for most sports fans with 2 exceptions: NY Ranger fans who grew up in New Jersey, and Dallas Cowboy fans who can't name the capital of Texas.

Weird Al on UHF

You could say Floyd’s show was similar to Weird Al’s movie.

Weird Al actually references his show in the UHF movie

There is a segment of the UHF movie in which Al puts on a program called “The Uncle Nutsy’s Clubhouse” which is a clear spoof of Uncle Floyd. He wears the coat and hat and has a puppet and everything.

He's still alive and still performing

He does a lot of stand-up comedy, not as much Uncle Floyd type of stuff but a lot of humor geared towards Italian-American audiences. He’s in Atlantic City and Vegas every so often, but mostly at Italian festivals around the country and private parties/banquests/whatever the occaision in the NY/NJ area.

As someone that knows him pretty well, I think it’s an interesting thought to pair him up with the Devils but I don’t know if he would go for it. It might be able to work if there was a NJ-themed bar either at the Rock or right around it where he could play piano and provide entertainment on game nights before games? As evidenced by this post, a lot of the younger fans don’t know who he is. And I don’t know how much of his fan base are Devils fans. A very interesting thought though.
