I wouldn’t put much trust CBS’ hockey info, It seems like they watched the Stan Ficshler(sp) interview from the game on Sat. and decided to run a couple articles from it.

That’s the frustrating part. Anyone can say anything regarding possible players to be moved or interest from another team by simply taking a look at their current needs or desires. Toss enough names on the pile, and someone is going to be right.

I can understand the logic behind a team being interested in Langs. He’s got a lot of talent, is on the last year of a contract, and is a good value at his current cost. Clarkson is a very good player and interest would be high if he were being shopped.

Don’t think either are likely, but as the days drag on, and guys are ending up in the minors or waived, I’m starting to get worried that one or more of them would have benefited from being around camp longer…they might be needed.

Prior to camp, maybe.

Lou and JMac have come out and said that Langs will be a Devil this year, and he’ll be the C. Leads me to believe trading him would be last resort, behind even simply sending Salvador and Zubrus to Albany.

A couple of the young D in system are looking really good in camp and have a significant chance of making the club in the spot Cummers would take.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Cummers, and would welcome him in NJ. For Langs…not so much. He’s one of the few guys on the roster that is performing at a level equal to or better than he’s currently paid.

It’s the Eklund school of reporting, where an infinite number of monkeys throw an infinite pile of poo at infinite numbers of walls and hopes something sticks! Or where those same monkeys bang away at an infinite number of typewriters, hoping to come up with hockey rumours and/or Shakespeare! (take your pick)

Really, I believe a lot of teams would be interested in Langenbrunner, and might even be calling Lou about him. However, Lou has to agree to make a trade, and Jamie has to agree to go that way as well. Funny how these “reporters” don’t seem to worry about that part, but then again media of all stripes seem to ignore the “fact-checking” part of their jobs for fear that they’ll be scooped.

The problem is Lou so good at keeping these things secret, that all there is ln occasional facts and a lot of speculation.

And that’s a good thing, in my book. I suspect most GMs would rather discuss potential moves with a colleague who knows how to keep a secret than one who goes running to the nearest reporter to brag about what he’s going to do.

Of course, the secrecy does bother the reporters of the world, because then they have to work for their column inches. Either investigative reporting to uncover the story and report on it, or they have to invent stupid rumours…. but either one is harder than having a story deposited in your lap.
