Matchups
That last chart down there really makes me happy about Pete DeBoer switching up the match-up pairings. The Josefson line was really struggling against the Richards line but the Zubrus line seemed to handle them pretty well. Great coaching decision by DeBoer.
Great stuff CJ!

I’m impressed by Ilya’s numbers, pretty decent scoring chances and assist chances for a “bad night”.
But I’m still concerned by the fact he got 2 of them by himself and 1 from Adam Larsson. Once again, up to now, Palms and Josefson are having hard to time to create space for him. & I really don’t like Palmieri on the 2nd line. I don’t say I hate him, I just say he’s not been a great fit so far.

I wonder how many Kovy would have had if he didn’t commit so many turnovers. Either way, my confidence in this team is rising and DeBoer is turning into the man.

Tallinder and Fayne did not struggle – they were given tremendously difficult ice time. Their -2 is actually quite good when you consider that they were on for 1 offensive zone draw and 8 defensive zone draws.

I guess struggled was the wrong word to use. They really only got beat up on 1 shift

Also – Doughty in overtime wasn’t a scoring chance? really?

It was outside the SC zone…probably just right out the zone. C.J. is stingy!

I watched it like 5 times, it was just outside.

Good work
I’m really surprised Jack Johnson didn’t get lit up for in terms of scoring chances, given he was a Corsi black hole last night. Doughy and Mitchell suffered much more; but then again, they also played a ton of minutes and considerable time against the Elias line. I’m not at all surprised the Elias line killed it in terms of chances – they were really great in all facets.
What stands out is how Kovalchuk ended up a +1 in chances at evens, yet all of his linemates were at 0 (Mills, Pelley) or below it (Palmieri, Josefson). I still think DeBoer rode him too much, but it mitigates some of the frustration I had from watching #17 last night.
