Kind of surprised at the Power Rankings, honestly. It’s early yet and they’re built on little more than “what did you do this week?” but it’s nice to see the Devils getting some credit.
It’s also nice to see the Rags way down at the bottom.

Kincaid has been called in for practice. Also, DeBoer now sticking with Parise-Elias-Zubrus. PEZ line?

It sucks that Brodeur is still hurt, but even if he wasn’t I’d still want The Moose starting he has been playing great especially on the shootout.

eh… I understand this sentiment, but Marty is still a better goalie than Hedburg. Brodeur also seems to play better with more playing time (whereas it doesn’t seem to matter that much to Hedburg).
That being said, Brodeur shouldn’t be trying to play injured at all (especially this early in the season), so I’m not exactly upset that they’re holding him out.
moose has been better so far, stick with the hot hand.

Hedberg has been the better goalie thus far, agreed. The numbers bear that out, as do the results. At the same time, the numbers don’t tell the entire tale (at least in my opinion). Not only do we have a very small sample size, but Brodeur has also been on the ice for 4 of the Devils’ 5 worst periods this season. Hedberg may be the better performer, but the team hasn’t exactly helped Marty look his best.
I also think the “hot hand” concept is a trifle overrated. Add to that the Devils having a lengthy layoff between the Nashville game and their next outing against San Jose, and the entire team would “cool off” to some degree…. that or they’ll come out sluggish like they did against the Flyers.
With a back-to-back set this weekend including travel in-between, it isn’t like we expect one goalie to play both games. I wouldn’t worry too much about Marty missing a practice considering we’re still 72 hours from gametime. I’d just as soon let him get some R&R while the team has an extended break from game action.
Now, if he isn’t practicing Thursday and Friday I’d get concerned…. but that’s a while off, yet.

I forgot to mention that, as well. I agree.
Lamoriello said that Marty is “status quo” (whatever that means… status quo means unchanged, but this seems like a change to me from what was being said on Sunday), but he also said that he’s unlikely to play on Friday. The exact quote is “He’s status quo. If he doesn’t practice tomorrow, and I don’t think he will, I don’t think he’ll be in for Friday.”
Devils say little about Martin Brodeur after visit to physician for shoulder injury
theres always Keith Kinkaid(sp), couldn’t hurt to see how the future goalie pans out.

Power Rankings and hedging ones bets.
So, it seems when everyone was ranking the Devils between 20-25th this year, they didn’t know how to interpret last year (we generaly do have our theories: Macleanism, Langenbrunner, and not having Parise blah blah blah) or what DeBoer would mean for the squad given his Florida experiences.
They were hedging their bets. Playing it conservative, so they could be proven “right” of the Devils flopped and if proven wrong, they could delight in saying the Devils have surprised them.
John Madden
You know, I was thinking about Madden during the preseason. Yea, he brings zero offense to the table, but… he’d be a useful fourth line centerman, I’d think. Besides, I remember thinking to myself that we need centers anyway, and that he ought to come cheap.
