Ilya Kovalchuk leads all forwards in ice time per game

Pete DeBoer received some calls from colleges after Saturday's game against the Nashville Predators, when Ilya Kovalchuk received 32:04 in ice time. Kovalchuk is 4th among all skaters, and the top forward, in terms of Time on Ice per game.

When asked about Kovalchuk's ice time, DeBoer replied "I didn’t foresee playing him that much (before taking over as coach), and again, that’s not going to be a typical night, I think the circumstances of the game – being down, 2-0, early in that game, playing well, but we needed goals – it just worked out that that was the way. But he is definitely someone that is capable. We did a skate (Tuesday), a tough skate at the end of practice, after being out on the ice for over an hour and he was barely winded at the end of it. Other guys were doubled over. He just has that type of capability."
