I’ve never been there but I wouldn’t be too worried. Personally I’ve thought the perception of Philly fans being dirty and un-classy was always greatly exaggerated. I’ve just honestly never really seen anything that would prove otherwise..

On second thought, have you checked if StubHub is accepting tickets for resale?
All kidding aside, I’m sure you’ll be fine. Of course you’re going to hear it from Flyers fans but that’s what you have to expect if you’re wearing a Devils jersey there. If you scream like you say you want to then I’d bet you’ll hear it even more from them. I think if you aren’t a belligerent drunk idiot going back and forth with them, and you just take what they say in stride, you’ll escape without being covered in puke or with welts from batteries.
Fun Fact!: Did you know John took the time to write up a great guide on ILWT that specifically addresses the appropriate Devils fan conduct for games at the Rock? Here it is
I always thought it was funny the guys over at Broad Street Hockey never thought to make their own version or even ask John if they could borrow his idea.

Fixed!
Really though, like any group of people a few bad apples spoil the bunch. It just so happens that there always seem to be more bad apples in Philly than elsewhere. Part of it may be excessive coverage of it in the media and part of it may be a self-fulfilling prophecy where some fans feel they need to live up to the reputation, but probably it’s just a potent mixture of alcohol and mob mentality.
Someone last season had a similar question about going to Philly with similar concerns and they were addressed pretty well in the comments, and, if I recall correctly, they posted afterward that everything went smoothly. Might want to see if you can find it with a search.
I signed in in the middle of class just to rec you for this. Awesome

I wear my Phillies hat with Devils’ jersey when I go. I had an empty cup thrown at me and was told multiple times in various ways that I was “defacing” the hat. My wife was scared. But that was the playoffs.
I have respect for most sports fans with 2 exceptions: NY Ranger fans who grew up in New Jersey, and Dallas Cowboy fans who can't name the capital of Texas.
I Go All The Time
I’m a Devils fan living in south Jersey so I go to a lot of Flyers/Devils games in Philly. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart. I was there for the PRESEASON game Sept 29th. I was booed and had change and food thrown at me. (I guess Philly isn’t affected much by the economic downturn and can afford throwing quarters at opposing fans.) That didn’t bother me as much as some poor kid behind me (a Flyers fan) was inadvertantly hit with food. When his mother turned to yell at the turds throwing the food, she was met with an obscenity laced tirade. (Mind you, these are all Flyers fans.) Not wanting to subject her son to that kind of environment, she left – with the kid crying because he couldn’t watch the rest of the game.
This is why I beg all Devils fans to be respectful of opposing teams’ fans. Booing and jeering is acceptable, but when you start hitting your own fans with projectiles, it’s time to re-evaluate your life and the meaning of coming out to spend money at NHL games.
"Everyone loves a comeback."
I only went to 1 in my Langenbrunner jersey, and actually had no problem. I had decent seats though. I’m not sure what its like in the upper areas. Also, it was the last game we played there in the 2009-10 season, a game we got murdered. 5-1 I think was the final score.
My suggestion in general for fans of the opposing team is to act respectful. Don’t jump up and act like a jerk when your team scores, and people probably won’t bother you too much. There’s always the chance you’ll run into a drunk jerk or 2 though.
I went to 2 of the 3 games at msg last season. First one I wore my Gionta jersey and got threatened a few times on the way out. I didn’t take it too seriously, but I wore my Panthers Beezer jersey for the next one. I guess it depends on what mood you’re in. If you’d much rather watch the game than fight off comments for 2 hours, don’t wear your Devs jersey.
Personally, I can’t pretend that I’m all that nice to obnoxious Flyers and Rangers fans. Or Leafs, Habs, or Bruins fans for that matter. When they’re quiet, there’s no issue. When they’re not, I’ll always say something. 19-75 comes to mind.
But I’ve never thrown anything at anyone. That’s abominable.
At the end of the day, we’re all just hockey fans out for a night of fun. Right?
na-na-na-na HEY! You SUCK!!
