The Matchup: The New Jersey Devils (4-4-1) vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs (7-3-1)

The Previews:  My preview from way earlier this morning is right here.  For an opposition's perspective, please check out Pension Plan Puppets.

A Song for Tonight: I can't think of any Toronto-based bands off the top of my head, so I'm picking a group from New Jersey.  Fortunately, there's been a lot of good musical acts to come out of the state.  This is "Ocean of Water" by East of the Wall from their excellent album Ressentiment.

Gameday Info: Plenty of gameday information to touch on.  First, let's talk about the visitors.  Thanks to James Mirtle, Jonas Siegel of TSN 1050 AM on Twitter reported that Jonas Gustavsson will start in net for the Leafs; defenseman Jake Gardiner will play tonight; and that called up forward Joey Crabb will line up with Tyler Bozak and Matthew Lombardi.

The Devils' changes to their lineup are  a little more substantial.  Tom Gulitti reported at Fire & Ice from this morning's skate that Martin Brodeur will return to action tonight. He will start for the Devils.  Based on Gulitti's report, Peter DeBoer has mixed up the forward lines again.

Pay attention, this will get a little messy:  Zach Parise has been moved back to left wing and Ilya Kovalchuk has been moved to right wing.  Believe it or not, Adam Henrique will center the two of them. I know Henrique's been doing well, but he's going to face some tougher competition than what he's seen yet.   It should be interesting to see how those three will work together, to say the last.  It should also mean that Patrik Elias' line - which remains the same - will likely take on the toughs, which makes sense as that's what they have been doing at home.  With Henrique moved up to the top six; Ryan Carter will center Mattias Tedenby and David Clarkson, who is out of the top six after a game up there. That unit should be fairly swift and energetic, among other potential adjectives. Brad Mills will take the fourth line center spot in between Cam Janssen and Nick Palmieri. That tells me two things: the first is that Eric Boulton's sore hand is enough to keep him out of another game; and the second is that Palmieri is being sent a message. One thing to look forward with these forward lines is whether DeBoer keeps them throughout the game. Should Toronto pound them early on in terms of possession, I wouldn't be surprised if he mixes them up again in-game.

Whew! You can use the comments in this post to discuss tonight's game before, during, and after it happens until the recap is up.  Please remember the rules at all times, namely: keep your comments clean, keep them on topic, and keep them legal (read: no illegal streams - no links, no discussion, no requests for one).  Go Devils!
