Devils in the Details: 11/26/2011
There's not much today, but here's a quick round-up of New Jersey Devils related news before today's matinee game:
- This post game post by Tom Gulitti has variety of quotes regarding Adam Larsson's benching, Petr Sykora's goal, and the continued success of the penalty kill among other matters. - Fire & Ice
- John Tavares wildly slashed at Zach Parise during Friday's game. While there was no call on the ice, the NHL did notice. Tavares has been fined $2,500 for the slash. - NHL.com
- You know who had a big game on Friday? Blake Coleman of Miami University. This short recap notes he had two goals and an assist over Providence on Friday afternoon. - MURedhawks.com
- Want some more prospect information? Here's a roundup of the Devils' prospects in the Canadian major junior leagues from Jared Ramsden. - Hockey's Future
- The roster for the NHL Alumni Game at the 2012 Winter Classic was announced on Friday. I only mention this here because Jim Dowd will play for the Flyers. - NHL.com
Remember that today's game is at 1 PM. If you're going, don't forget to bring a new or gently used coat for donation. The Devils are holding their annual coat drive today.

Couldnt watch the game, but was it a particularly bad slash?

I thought so. Parise was just playing his typical game which involves hounding and being all over whomever he’s covering. Tavares managed to get knocked down against the boards, and then from his knees threw a wild (2 handed?) slash right at Zach’s arms. Couldn’t tell completely from the replay, but I think Chico or Steve stated that the stick also went up and hit Zach in the visor, and Zach also appeared to throw his head back for a moment. I only saw this replay the few times that they showed it during the broadcast yesterday, but I think this is what happened, and that it wasn’t even close to your run of the mill slash. Definitely deserving of a $2500 fine, and as many people are saying, that maximum fine number should probably be increased.

Like I said, I haven’t seen it yet so I guess i’ll make my own judgement once I do, but it had to have been pretty bad to necessitate a fine without a penalty in the game itself. And you said it appeared Zach got clipped in the visor so Shanny probably went after that as well. I just thought it was an odd situation to assess the maximum penalty on a non-call, deserving though it may be.
