Burnside
I honestly can’t blame him for keeping the Devils in the bottom third of the league as of yesterday morning. Sure they had won two out of three last week but they didn’t look great and they had just come off of that horrid road trip. He was absolutely right about Kovalchuk and Parise and Brodeur needing to step up.
Well Zach had 3 points last night and Kovy had a goal. Now Marty needs to step up his game and everything will be firing on all cylinders and we’ll climb Burnside and LeBrun’s rankings in no time.

People you mentioned have to step up their games: Parise, Kovalchuk, Brodeur.
People you left out: the entire defense.
But you’re absolutely right. I know we love to hate on Burnside, but I can’t blame him either.

Burnside doesn’t mention the Defense, and the Devils are almost at the top of the NHL in Shots Against and lead the NHL in Penalty Killing. It leads one to believe that the team’s high GAA is a result of the goaltending, not necessarily the defense.
I say this because we all know Burnside doesn’t actually watch the Devils games. He just looks at the standings and the team stats and makes a judgment call that way. I agree that our defense needs to tighten up, but primarily it’s our Power Play that was killing us over that 2-7-0 stretch.

Parise and Kovy have to step their game up? They have points in 7 of last 8 games? They each are averaging a point or more per game? Dude’s an idiot.

I thought the same thing when I read that, but perhaps Hackside meant they needed to step it up more to mask other deficiencies on the team…then i realized it was Burnside….and he sucks at life.

That’s true, but when Parise and Kovalchuk play together, they have to be more than ppg players.
And Kovalchuk speeds away, great moves, busting through, DID YOU SEE THAT?
Less than 2 PPG? UNACCEPTABLE!

Well, together they have been. 19 points combined in the last 8 games = 2.345 PPG.
Actually – if you throw that other forward in there (Henrique); they have 30 combined points in 8 games or 3.75 PPG.
What more do you and these other people like Burnside want?

Wait, they have?
I’d like to amend my previous comment to LESS THAN 3 PPG – UNACCEPTABLE!

Agreed
You’ll find no bigger Burnside hater than me, but the Devils’ ranking is pretty appropriate this week.
Status quo.
I agree with the ranking as well. But I would have been satisfied if he reasoning behind it is becuase the sky is blue – not that Kovy and Parise need to step up their game.
