Devils in the Details: 12/29/11- World Junior Shutout Edition
Here's your Devils links for today
Recaps from last night's game [Fire and Ice][NJ.com][Devils][PHT]
Henrik Tallinder is slowly progressing. The Devils could really use him right now [Fire and Ice]
Ryan Carter did receive a call from Brendan Shanahan, but didn't receive a suspension or fine [NJ.com]
Anton Volchenkov- offensive dynamo. (Well, he does have as many points as Scott Gomez) [NJ.com]
John Madden will sign with the Florida Panthers. Which is disappointing because I would've liked to see him sign in Boston so I could make some more "Brad Marchand doesn't wear shirts" jokes [PHT]
Devils goaltending prospect Scott Wedgewood made 26 saves to shut out the Czech Republic [IIHF]
Jon Merrill didn't have a great night on the other hand, deflecting a Mikael Granlund shot into his own net [IIHF]

Not only did Wedgewood get a shutout but the assist he made was Marty-like. He is going to be good. I don’t know if anyone else watched the Canada game but he was calm, cool and collective. Made some huge saves when called upon and he is really good at handling the puck.

Wedgewood looked really good in that game and watching that game I realized I like his size. Hope he gets the start against the US.

John Madden
I think this is an interesting signing by Florida. It’s true that their penalty killing is fairly sub-par, but they don’t take a lot of penalties. They’re still giving up three times as many goals at evens as they are on the PK. Ultimately I think this is a smart move though to bring in some depth to a fairly shallow core of forwards. It also adds another piece of the 2010 Blackhawks puzzle that may have been lacking.
This move is a clear signal though that Florida means to be considered a playoff team. It should be exciting to see what other deals they make after the All-Star Break leading up to the trade deadline.

Unless in Overtime
they ever think crazily enough to have mottau, rolston and pandolfo kill off a 4-3
