Patrik Elias Reaches 500 Assists
With his assist on Petr Sykora's second goal against Buffalo on Wednesday night, Devils all-star Patrik Elias tallied the 500th assist of his NHL career, all with New Jersey. No other skater in team history has reached the 400 assist plateau (Scott Niedermayer's 364 are a distant second place).
In the illustrious history of the National Hockey League, Patrik Elias is now the 124th all-time assist leader having passed Marc Savard and Randy Carlyle last night. Elias's 848 points (and counting) are currently good enough for 116th overall. That is in the history of all players ever in the league. 885 points, tallied by Owen Nolan, is the current cut-off for the top 100 of all time.
It isn't hard to imagine Patrik reaching 600 assists and 1,000 points before his potentially hall-of-fame career comes to a close. This has been your friendly reminder that Patrik Elias is, in fact, amazing.

Also noteworthy is that he’s 4 games away from playing in his 1,000th NHL game.
He’s probably going to need two more typically productive years (~60 points) after this one to reach 1,000 points, which appears to be pretty doable based on his perennial consistency and level of play, assuming he avoids injury or any other significant loss of games.
If he does, his resume for the HoF will be about as complete as he’ll ever make it and I think he’ll definitely garner consideration… though one more Cup should clinch it.
I agree entirely (obviously). Another interesting piece that will help his resume, is that he is the second all-time scorer among Czech born NHL players. Jaromir Jagr currently has twice as many points as Elias, so number 1 is out of the question. Elias currently leads Milan Hejduk by almost a hundred points, though Hejduk does have 18 more goals than Elias.

If he hits 1,000, it’s going to be a lock that no one else wears #26 in New Jersey ever again after Elias. I think the case for that is fairly solid, but 1000 points would seal it.
